Drawing by Moebius (Jean Giraud). I'm the one staring, with the pointed hat.

aggiunse nient'altro che beffa all'inganno.
Inseguo un'idea già lontana di nuove parole viventi, salvezza segreta dei persi, rifugio di fragili intenti.

How could I possibly translate this? I am sorry once again but it seems that my brain tilts when the moment comes to switch from one language to the other (especially with poetry).
I have always been fascinated, in that hypnotic way in which we use to observe something terrible happening in front of us, by the fate of the mantis. Everyone knows that the female kills her partner after the mating ritual by devouring his head, perhaps not everyone knows that the destiny of the female is to die right after lying the eggs. It makes me wonder about the mysterious ways in which life and death dance together and our being gullible in letting our nature fooling us in this eternal game.

Sort:

Have you ever thought that we have each been carefully placed here in a certain place and at a certain time to fulfill a purpose, and when that purpose has been completed then we each move on to our reward? A body that dies dissolves and returns to the dust from which it came, but what of a spirit? Once a spirit is known then it is always there somewhere for as long as it is still known and remembered.

A man called a pet store wanting to buy a very friendly loving dog that would be there waiting for him when he returned from work each day to be his friend and keep him company. The pet store owner said that he had just the right dog and sent him a photo of a beautiful little dog that looked perfect. But before the man could drive to the store and get the dog it got loose and ran away never to be seen again. The man was sad because he had wanted that dog, but when he waited and waited and it never returned he bought a different dog instead. This new dog was not as pretty as the first one, but it was everything that he had wanted in a dog and it fulfilled his purpose for having a dog. Soon the man had completely forgotten about the original dog and couldn't even have told you what he looked like if you had asked. But the dog that he went home with lived with him for twenty years and completely filled his purpose as a faithful and loving companion for all that time. That man never forgot the dog that he came to know and love so well and he would always remember his unique spirit.

I'm not completely sure why I thought up this story and wrote it down here just now. But for whatever reason, it must have been for you today.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me @deaconlee and I'm honored that in some way I inspired them with this freewrite. I am quite for a deterministic vision of life to be sincere, I mean I am existentialist and I believe that we build our own fate. I believe that we can fulfill many things - not just one specific or assigned one (not to diminish with this your vision) - but most of the times along the way we forget who we truly are, our authentic and powerful nature. That lead us to betray and forget our true self, and to not do what we want (but maybe what THEY want, or what it should be done). We can be everything we want to be but the secret is in the want word, intended as a true force of will that we need to be able to recognise and apply to what surround us. This is a part of what I believe. Thank you my friend once again for your comment.

So true. Death and life and all of that. We are deep in this dance right now. My daughter in laws father just passed away and she had brought him to their house to live the last weeks of his life and held his hand as he passed in a less than peaceful way. Now, all of us are dealing in our own way with death being the reality of life. The four year old cried when my son told him (he was with me when his grandpa passed), the 6 year old got angry, and now is starting to cry a little, my daughter in law is trying to erase that last picture of her dad from her mind and replace it with a happier time picture, I am reminded of my dad and my mom whose hand I held when they passed but also of cancer and how short life is.... That mantis fits right in.....
When you have time, I love for you to voice record your poem in Italian. Still figuring out the radio show, but I think we can play prerecorded clips....
And we are an international crowd :)

Marianne, thank you for sharing this with me. Im deeply touched for what you and your family had to face and feel it..the awareness of our limited time never prepares us enough when we face the passage directly in our lives. Sometimes I would like to be just pragmatic and bold and consider death just like that, a passage. Like that silly fear that we have of entering in the cold water of a mountain lake but then, once we finally win the resistence and we're in, everything passes. The poem speculates on a dream of new words and new paths we may walk in this quest long a lifetime 🙂 I would be honored to record it as many allitterances were purposedly inserted seeking for rythm and musicality.

Please translate. There is a translator gadget you can add to your blog. I have seen it on Steemian blogs from China. I want to read your post. I can't upvote if I can't understand.

I can't. It would require to rephrase and recreate the assonances/structure. Basically It can't be made through an automatic tool due to the game of sounds in it (see the allitterance between AN and EN in the fourth stanza). The poetry is about the paradox of our human knowledge, making us free but at the same time confining us within the barriers of our limited understanding through our senses and cognitive possibilities. Thanks for passing even if you can't upvote.
