Steem - Insights With Twitter Data
Twitter is a wonderful tool to get feeds of topics that your interested in. By analysing who is using Twitter and posting about Steem/it we can get some interesting insights about geographical activity as well as trends in media penetration.

For the last few weeks I have been discussing metrics to monitor the growth and development of activity and people on the Steem Blockchain. Keep an eye out for my upcoming analytic reports which will show a view of some useful metrics over one week time horizons.
Today I will refine my previous Twitter Analysis taking it further and looking at Global Tweets in the past week as well as detailed trends across Western Europe. Where and by whom the word Steemit is mentioned in the last 7 days.
Global Activity
Lets first look at the Number of Tweets Globally for the past 7 days.

Western Europe is a sizeable chunk of the global activity but it clearly does not cover all the activity. I will develop the rest of this analysis stage by stage to take in more of the world but for today we will only examine Western Europe in Detail.

Geographical Breakdown
In order to break down the tweets by geography I examine how many tweets are made within 25 miles of major population centers.

Red dots = population centers with no Tweets
Green dots and Size represent the number of Tweets
- Activity is focused on London, Berlin and Zurich.
When we exclude Retweets quite a different picture emerges.

- Here we get a broader distribution of Activity and the Netherlands gets more visibility.
Lets examine activity in the main cities for each of the last 7 days
Main Cities
The numbers of Tweets in the main cities is at quite a low level.

The following Graph shows the breakdown of these numbers by Main Tweet/ Retweet.
Green = Retweet
Violet = Main Tweet
Of these 4, the only city with a significant number of main tweets is London. Even that is still quite low. Lets watch how this grows over time.
Most Influential Tweeters
As I build up this search algorithm around the globe I will extend this analysis but for now I am able to examine the most influential Tweeters in Western Europe.
This next graph shows the 10 tweeters with the greatest following that have tweeted about Steemit in the last week. (Excluding Retweets)

The Big Hitters on Twitter tweet infrequently about Steemit but I am sure we will see this list grow over time.

It's also interesting to look at the people who tweet most frequently about Steemit. This next table shows the top 25 from the last week.

I don't use Twitter. In Russia the most widespread social network VKONTAKTE. But Steemit very little information in Russia.Our government is ambiguous about the blockchain and cryptocurrency. Therefore, people tend not to publicize this activity.
I'm not really into twitter as it's low priority for me so the analysis is interesting but not so useful to me. I was surprised to see the lack of tweeting in France. Thank you for doing this analysis. I will try to mention Steemit if I do tweet.

Twetter most used in europe, In Indonesia I just promo steem by my facebook, caused FB user most in my country, But in tweeter might be I can influance a bit more of to promo steem.

I am keeping well. I have not been posting this week but I have been doing lots of Steemit activity in the background :)
Facebook is not as easy to search but I will look into building in some stats for this. I think a lot of great promotional work goes on here. I will pm you too in relation to another topic. For my next Twitter analysis I will be looking west to the states but we will get to Indonesia shortly too :)

The town in Kent is Canterbury.
OK Thanks - although Canterbury (where I did my Master's degree incidentally, and a very nice place to live!) only has a population of around 50K, so its' not a population center - Medway (where I grew up, and not such a nice place to live, but MUCH cheaper) is the biggest in Kent which has a population of almost 300K (same as Brighton near enough) and it's outside your 25 mile radius (from London).

In searching the population centers I am using a database of cities and towns to build a list. As I mentioned my world geography is not the best but I am searching with a population gt 100k, 200k, 300k etc and plotting to get a fairly widespread distribution (geographically) of the population centers. It will take a while to build a world database and there is the risk of double counting but I will refine the search till I get a representative view of Steemit Tweets from around the globe. This local input is invaluable.
The twitter search I am running searches within 25 miles of the location I specify so I think the search for Canterbury will pick up some of Medway. Incidentally the database I am using is only showing a population of 29k people for Rochester but sometimes official stats can be misleading depending on town boundaries. Here is where local knowledge will help me build a better search. In general it would be better to search by region and triangulate the center of the region but when I go to irregularly shaped states the search becomes more problematic.
When I go to the states I think my initial searches may miss out on many towns but I will cover the main cities initially and maybe increase my search radius there. There are limits on the amount of searches I can do on the twitter API so it's a challenge to find the balance but with your help we will get there.

I appreciate the work honestly - Official stats can be misleading true... that 29K figure.. Medway is essentially 4 towns which have merged into one - defo more than 0.25 million in total - it'd take you about an hour and a half to walk from one end to the other, it's all continuous. I still think there's a lot more than 29K in just Rochester alone though!!

Wonderful Insights. Steemit and Steem is being talked about outside Steem too.
Steem promotion is going on not just in the offline world but also in the online world. I have seen one of the most famous Steemit Users @firepower sharing his posts/meetup info on Facebook.
The platform is expanding and it is going to absorb all the Social Media platforms sooner or later :) :D
