Steem - Account Activity

in #stats7 years ago

We have recently passed half a million accounts on Steemit.

In this Series of Posts I will take a close look at the growth of Steem Accounts, which represent a significant but often misunderstood and misquoted metric for the state of Steem and Steemit.

Will Hardfork 20 accelerate Steem reaching 1m accounts?

Account Creation over time

Lets examine 2 views of account creation activity. These numbers show new users joining the platform as well as people opening up additional accounts.

  • We can see in the second graph that Steem has recently passed 500k accounts.
  • The first graph shows that account creation has been trending over 1,000 accounts per day fairly consistently for the last few months but the rate of change has not been increasing and is fairly flat. This implies steady growth rather than exponential growth.

Complete Profiles

This next graph shows two things:

  • The Red line shows the number of accounts per day that have been created.
  • The other coloured lines show the number of completed profiles.

In my view completed profiles are a better yardstick for measuring growth of the platform. Bots don't usually have complete profiles, although there are exceptions. As you can see there is little variation between completion of the location, profile pic and name, which means people generally fill them all out or none at all.

Account Activity

Here I represent visually the activity across all the accounts created on Steemit by looking at the date of the last post. The colour represents this, with dark blue showing no posting and lighter shade showing that there has been some posting activity on the account.

Dark Blue = No Posting
Light Blue= Some Activity

There is still a significant proportion of accounts with no posting activity.

In the next few days I will look at the geographical distribution of Steemit Accounts using several metrics and sources of data. None of the available metrics are comprehensive but by combining them we can get a view of the global activity.

Thank you for reading this. I write on Steemit about Blockchain, Cryptocurrency, Travel and lots of random topics.

Amazing how we have half a million accounts and I hardly get anything more than 3 pairs of eyes on my posts... hahaha... I know it's my content... oh well... still beats FB for effort ;)

The number of people is a lot less than that and active users less again. It still beats Facebook for community and engagement. Stick with it, I am sure your content will get noticed, it's magic 😀

Thanks, appreciate the encouragement. The plus is that I'm actually having fun here so all's well :)

Yes im agree there is a significant development in the percentage of publications and the proportion of new users. This poses several challenges for developers on the one hand and for users on the other.

Yeah , in few month steemit will became family of 1m members...Today steem makes a record of most transaction in one day.....Nice post ...Keep posting

this is greatly increased once a friend.
hopefully all successful,

Thank you for your Post.

Following you.
@ohicklin

The number of accounts vs. completed profile account is interesting. Do you have a number on the difference?

Off the top of my head the accounts count is around 500k but filled by out profiles is only about 45k. I think this is a better estimate of actual users than the oft quoted number of accounts.
