Market Friday and The Cherry Blossom Parade
If you recall, it kicked off with the Kite Festival and moved on to the Cherry Blossom Festival and later the next week, the parade and the Sakura Matsuri – Japanese Street Festival. There were so many events in between, souvenirs and even pretzels from the rogue faux vendor if you got lucky!
The Sakura Matsuri – Japanese Street Festival is the largest one-day celebration of Japanese culture in the United States and is proud to be the grand finale of the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Performers and vendors travel from all over the country and the world to Washington, DC to share their love of Japanese culture and traditions with the Festival attendees. source
Cherry Blossom Festival Parade, then immediately after, the Sakura Matsuri - Rain or Shine! You can find me between 7th St NW & 3th St NW Pennsylvania Ave NW, Washington, DC
What a parade be without a fife and drum corp?
STOP!! BRAIN TEASER AHEAD!!
source55
Never sad, sometimes blue.
Never empty, sometimes full.
Never pushes, always pulls.
What am I?
Oh! This one was hard!
Laid all out and ready to roll. I caught these horns all lined up and ready to go as I perused the pre-parade activities. Everyone was warming up and having fun.
Clowning around a little bit. I saw these guys all over town for the rest of the day.
And just like that, the Festival is over. Until next year! I hope you had fun and maybe next year, you can come to Washington, DC and celebrate the season with us! You know you want to!!! And thank you for visiting #MarketFriday!! Have a most fabulous day!
I always post this poem down at the bottom of my posts. It is one that has become so near and dear to my heart. I only post the most famous part of it, but, wanted to post it in its entirety today.
i cried the way women on tv do
folding at the middle
like a five pound note.
i called the boy who use to love me
tried to ‘okay’ my voice
i said hello
he said warsan, what’s wrong, what’s happened?
and these are what my prayers look like;
dear god
i come from two countries
one is thirsty
the other is on fire
both need water.
i held an atlas in my lap
ran my fingers across the whole world
and whispered,
"where does it hurt?"
it answered,
"everywhere"
"everywhere"
So many great photos, Denise! Thanks a lot for sharing!
Today I've entered your #MarketFriday initiative again. I hope you like these photos from Riga's Central Market.

Thank you so much! Sharing this parade with you has been my pleasure. I can see that you went to Riga and that is very exciting. I have yet to get to Latvia, but, have a great friend who lives there. She loves it and is always trying to entice me to come and visit her!
Thank you for joining in the tag this week. I know how much time and effort it takes to be in the tag, so I appreciate it.
You celebrate Orthodox Easter, correct?
!tip
Yes, and it's most definitely a city I'd like to visit again. A bit expensive but so beautiful!
Orthodox? I don't really know. Most people here are Catholics but that's all I know about it.
Thanks. I hope you enjoyed my post!
That is fine, I was actually talking about you, but, yes, most in Riga celebrate the Orthodox Easter with is at the end of the month. Now, I am off to check out your post! Thanks again!
Have a fabulous weekend!
Yeah, I don't know if people here in Portugal are Orthodox or not. I know I am not. I don't have a religion myself. 😝
That's fine. They celebrate Easter tomorrow. I forgot you lived in Portugal. :)
Hi Denise! Here is my Market Friday post! I sent you a message about steem but I didnt hear back. Maybe I will catch you again some other time. Enjoy your Easter!!!

Hi, Paul! Thank you for dropping the #MarketFriday link! I always appreciate not having to chase you down.
Maybe! If you are lucky!
Seriously. I'm too busy to joke like that today. You are such a diva. Go play with the popular kids. ;) They probably answer their phones.
Have a great Easter!
!tip
No worries. I was not joking. I can always just power up.

Absolutely love all the detail shots of the parade you shared with us such a fun event it seems I would love to experience it one year
Here is my post for this week https://steemit.com/marketfriday/@tattoodjay/market-friday-in-neon
Thank you so much! It's always a pleasure for me to be able to share any of my market Friday, but especially the parades! You really do need to come and experience one of their parades, although I can actually say that new you works are so legendary that the competition would be steep. I'm not sure but I can remember enjoying the heck out of the ones up there. Having said that these are different and their subjects are a little bit more patriotic based. Having said that I think I like all parades! Thank you so much for dropping your link as it makes it so very helpful for me! As always, have yourself a most wonderful weekend! Happy Easter in advance!
!tip
No thanks needed it is always my pleasure to visit your posts :) but this one stood out and you really captured the fun and thrill of this parade in your post :)
I have been to some of the NYC parades over the years, but the streets are so tight and the crowds can get crazy, so I find myself less wanting to go to them these days, but this spring and summer I plan to catch as many of our local smaller one sin Milford this year.
Well thank you so much for that! I actually think it's because I love the parade so much and I love capturing the fun, although that is not always possible. It looks better in my mind then it comes out in photos sometimes.
I know exactly what you are saying about the streets of New York City as I have been to many of their parades and their New Year's celebrations. I think I got frostbite one too many times out there waiting in the rain or the snow or the ice or all of them together at one time. I have thrown in the towel into that one and will only go to a New Year's celebration if it is from the balcony of a hotel room. As there are no balconies in the area, you know that will never happen again. LOL
The crabs to go crazy and I don't mind so much going to the ones in Washington DC as they seem to be spread out more, making it not seem quite as crowded. I'm with you on catching some of the smaller ones this year because honestly, the crowds seem to be more animated because they are not so agitated.
Yes if its something you love I to find the photos they are just that much more special, I went once for New years at Times Square i got there early about 5PM and it was far to crowded for me so I got the heck out of there and never will do that again
I much prefer the smaller ones they may not be as fancy but they have a nice homely charm to them
Oh, trust me! I've grown up and away from needing to be there. I used to love going there and I actually got a big adrenaline rush from being in that crowd. I could still do it but I'm over freezing to death! I've gotten wet and thrown up on, and I think that I have pretty much eliminated that from my to do list.
NOw a days I have to admit I am happy enough to watch it on TV nice and warm at home LOL
Really its just another day, made into such a big thing LOL or perhaps that just my excuse to avoid the chaos of New Years in Times Square LOL
Oh my God man! Don't tell me that you are giving in to the being old thing! I don't believe that for one moment. Well, maybe a little.

It is always my pleasure!
Wow you always raise the bar. Every single week I am stunned and blown away. I really like how you capture action in the shots, just amazing. Clearly it is always sunny and everyone is of good cheer and having a great time. Super post!
Thank you so much for your always kind comments and raising the bar is giving me far too much credit. But thank you for that. I do like photographing parades and I know I'm kind of weird that way come up but I really do like parades. Most people I know are so over them and don't like to even attend them oh, but I can tell you that if there's a parade, I'll be there. I'll even be early so I can get a good seat. Although truth be told, most times I am trolling the perimeters, looking for something different. It was a beautiful day and a great time was had by all.
Would it make you feel better if I told you that you're going to have rain and thunder today? There is even a 60 to 70% chance that we might have a tornado touchdown. So Camelot Has Fallen. As an aside oh, I haven't seen anything yet, but there's still hope.
As always thank you for the kind words and the visit and I wish you a most awesome day! Happy Good Friday and wishing you and your family a Happy Easter this weekend.
!tip
Well it is rainy here today, as it was yesterday. I am sure you will have Camelot back in no time and a sunny weekend. I do hope you dodge the tornadoes though! Have a super Easter!

Lovely day. I just wanted to ask, was it a cold day out?
Believe it or not, it's incredibly beautiful, which is kind of a good thing because those little girls had very little on! In actuality, it was close to 80 degrees Fahrenheit oh, so it was nice and warm in probably they all worked up a sweat. It's not a good time of year just as its turning from Winter to Spring and many times its spikes into the higher Heat and then goes down a little bit. All in all it was a beautiful day and the parade was pretty amazing.
Thank you for your always generous upvote and as always I hope you have a most wonderful evening.
Happy Easter to you and yours!!
!tip
Oh (26°C), that's very warm.
Today it went to 16°C (~61°F) as I took my boys to a traveling fun fair "Tivoli Sariola", that is currently visiting Lahti. We had fun.
Next, we are cooking some lamb moussaka with Vera. (It'll probably be a late night dinner again since it takes such a long time to make.)

What an amazing and cheerful report! I got known about your Cherry Blossom Festival from the video of my friend on FB. It looks really awesome. It was a bit windy, and cherry petals flew in tge air like a magic snow 💛
But I did not know about parade - it is so bright and festive! I love your parades in US, I wish we have them here more often, these costumes, movements, music bring a holuday spirit to everyone. This is what we need very much.
I will submit my story later today😉
Have a nice time!
How wonderful that you got to know about the cherry blossoms from your friend! I am sure the video it's much nicer than pictures. I personally like every action of the video but I don't really like taking video too much. It is magical when the cherry blossom start falling to the Earth, just like snow. They do have a wonderful parade and a Japanese Street Festival and there are many other things going on for 2 weeks all tied into the Cherry Blossom Festival. It actually starts off with the Kite Festival, which I posted on I believe 2 weeks ago. At this moment there is a lot of holiday spirit and we do need a little bit of that. Easter will be coming and that will be another whole holiday that the Washington DC area will celebrate, in style.
I look forward to your post later today and as always I hope you are having a most wonderful day!
!tip
Thank you for your nice words, @dswigle! My day was wonderful indeed 🙂🤗
And I almost forget to post my link here:
So glad to hear that! I love those socks! They are amusing and would bring a smile to anyone's face!
Such a small thing that os in fact not visible, but can color up one's day ☺
Hope you are having a nice weekend!
I know!! But, I know that they are there! )
That is all that counts! I am having a wonderful weekend! Thank you! I hope you are also!
Yes, I had some fun - went to local street market to get some food and new photos 😉 Meet some nice and strange people, LOL. Write of it next Friday!
Oh my! I can hardly wait to see it and aren't some people just so strange? I wonder if they think the same thing about me as I carry that camera around snapping at everything. LOL

You did it! You've convinced me that we want to be a part of this two-week celebration so I'm moving it to the top of my bucket list after 2020 (our fiftieth anniversary). See you there in 2021!
Congratulations! You finally made up your mind to move Washington DC to the top of your bucket list! Well, the cherry blossoms anyway. Just keep in mind that the beginning of April is one of the best dates to shoot for. Only because the Cherry Blossom Festival will fall into there somewhere and if you have to do anything in advance it's the safest date.
It is always a great time and I have never been disappointed. That comes from someone who never misses it. Congratulations ahead of time for nearing your 50th anniversary! That is quite an accomplishment! And yes! I expect to see you in 2021!
Thank you for dropping by because it's always a pleasure to see you! I want to wish you a happy Easter in advance.

Thank you for the timing information, I just made note of all of this in my book. My husband is on board too! Lots to look forward to.
Have you been here before? I want to say yes... if not, hold on to your seat! I will load you up with things to think about!
I have not been there but my husband went twice while in high school...that was a long time ago. We wonder why we never went before or took the kids. I made a note that you are the one to contact as we get closer to the date even though I didn't need to...I'm not going to forget you are the one that made the festivals and trees look so beautiful and something not to be missed.
I am surprised, but, then not really. People who tend to travel the world will sometimes skip the obvious here in the States. I am totally guilty of that and am in the process of remedying some of that. :)
I am glad you will make the effort to come and actually, there is no bad time to visit, so if you find yourself in the neighborhood before that, just remember that everything they have here (almost everything) is free. All of the Smithsonians, Art Galleries and all of the monuments - plus the obvious, like the White House, Library of Congress, the Capitol, the list goes on!
Come on down! You won't be sorry!
Thank you. I think it will be a wonderful trip even if it is not during the Cherry Blossom Festival but that will be the goal.
I can assure you that whatever you come it will be the perfect time! Except for the end of July and August. Tourists are knee-deep! Even I stay away from downtown, except for the Folklife Festival which is turn left fourth of July festivities. That's another perfect time to come. You haven't seen fireworks until you've seen them with the capital in the back view and the military band playing the 1910 Overture!

Oh my, what wonderful shots you took there my dear ! I love it when people have spotted you and offer their largest smile full of cheerfulness and energy to the peppy Denise behind her camera ! And I love the effect on your photos that focus on the subject and also gives dynamism to them !
Thanks my dear for this wonderful share and have a marvelous week-end ! Hugs from both Luigi and I ^_^
Thank you, my Barbara! Thank you for strolling through Market Friday! It was a really fine parade and Festival it lasted for over 2 weeks. It was non-stop entertainment and that has a way of putting you in a good mood all day long. I do love when people see that I am taking a picture and put their best face on. I actually do not mind catching them unaware, but there's something so very rewarding about a big fat smile! I really do love going to these events but I also really love photographing them.
Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a most wonderful Easter! Give my Luigi a hug!
Bisous! Bisous!
#MarketFriday loves you! 💖

Thank you for taking the time to come and post it for me! Cherry blossoms are so awesome and last evening we had a wind storm (and then the rain came) of 70MPH and it was raining cherry blossoms all over my front lawn. It was actually quite a spectacular sight!
But, now I have only a few left. :)
Thank you again and I appreciate the time and effort spent to make a post!
