Welcome to "One Human Basket"

weeklytop15_large.jpg

All the posts referenced here are still active (at the time of this post).

It has been almost a week, and already I have read more stunning poetry than I can ever remember. Long ago, I was really into Edgar Allan Poe, and I read all of his works, back-to-back, over a period of several months. This week reminds me of that precious adolescent time in my life. Some of it has been good, some of it trash, and some of it is solid gold.

Everyone has their own opinion, and this post is simply mine. I hope you enjoy these weekly top picks as much as I did. They are listed in no particular order, except the one I found them in. I have posted the first six original poems, below, for your reading pleasure.

There are some really amazing and talented poets in this community and I want to thank each and every one of you for participating. I am hoping to add to the community by reserving my voting power strictly for users of the hashtags, #poetry and #onehumanbasket. Any left over voting power goes towards highly selective posts.

Milton's Playland

by @beginningtoend

Thelonious buzz,
the black print
on Ivory keys.

One crazy cat
stoned in his tower.
Crescent moon questions,

radically rocking,
Blue Monk
with discordant notes,

the arrows of light,
the arrows that pierce
a cold heart,

then cry
in soul voice
that flowers in whiskey.

Tale Poem

by @evgsk

“You want to ask me what is fear?
I’ll tell you story, listen dear!

The knight has fired his lovely arrow
At tower with a stony wall.
He was the master, he was hero
And now he need to reach his goal.

The brightly moon can help to find
The way…” - But what then, hey?! -
‘’The stone is hard, the arrow isn’t blind.
My dear, it was magic day!

The moon, the flowers…all the world
Were crying: “Stop! It’s stone, arrow!”
The arrow knows it’s main reward
To hit the wall. It’ll help the hero.”

What’s motivate such glorious feat? “ Listen:
The wall destroyed and arrow broke.
The task is done. It’s change’s prevision.
It’s the imprint and isn’t a joke.”

The Drama of Fear

by @billykeed

My heart skipped
and I palpitated
My age ran
and I sold another rib
My heart grew a wing
for the next gasp
What will I lose?
when the chasm is complete
Sometimes awareness is a blessing
that cures the innocence
I journey to night bridge
there's a song waiting
A poem, a blood script
for my blood type
Herd negative nurse gasped
Life affirmative I panicked
when they didn't hear the drip machine
Screaming of air bubbles
in the life stream
The chasm would have been complete
South of heaven way past nirvana fallen
for fear? Or the lack thereof hate.

The Maze in Sunflower Valley

by @poetrychick

There was a maze in Sunflower Valley
Designed by a garden girl named Sally.
She lined the dirt pathway with solar lights
So people could clearly see lefts and rights.

Her maze was amazing, creative, fun!
It had been rated Top Maze number One!
It was right near her nice castle tower
That she built brick by brick with hand power.

And she lined it with white-climbing roses
That shone in moonlight with glowing poses!
She’d look out her windows to see the views
Which displayed all the most breathtaking hues!

She took care of her maze every morning
Ere the heat of the sun began scorning.
When it was hot, she’d retreat to her place
And arrange fresh cut blossoms in a vase.

The shadow on the sundial announced
The hour was getting further pronounced.
And then she realized her bracelet was gone-
The one she wore with a most charming swan.

The query she had was, “Where could it be?
It was still on my wrist when I had tea.
What if it’s outside in my maze tonight?”
So Sally pulled out her trusty flashlight…

And went off in her maze of sunflowers
to search for it in her shirt and trousers.
The arrow on the wind vane shifted east-
And the outside temperature decreased.

“I know I passed by this way earlier.”
Just then the wind chime became swirlier,
And she could smell rain coming in the air.
“I must search faster! A storm would impair

my search!” And then she smelled some peppermint.
She turned the corner and saw her foot print.
And just 3 inches from the print she saw,
Lay a glint from a shiny silver claw…

It was the clasp of her missing bracelet!
She then took up her dirt-covered asset,
And wiped it as clouds began to rumble…
She smiled and ran without a grumble.

She was thankful that she found it in time!
And then she pulled out her pie of key lime-
Which she ate while hearing the drops of rain,
Sounding a rhythm on the windowpane.

It was a relaxing cacophony
That ended its’ melody at three.
And as the sun rose like a house of cards,
A chorus began by a choir of birds.

Sally looked out to see the brand new day
And an army of sunflowers arrayed
In fresh yellow, bright as a pep rally!
So begins a new day in Sunflower valley.

Seasonal Love

by @thebigdelay

I loved you in the summer, but I couldn't stand the heat
and you were not contented to flatter my defeat
with flowers or with virtue (to make the wicked wise)
I couldn't even hurt you at the summer's cruel demise

Spring had taught me nothing of the ground it spun above
but offered its distraction and its temperamental love
and autumn was a crusher with its boredom and its hope
it scrambled my instructions like a grey kaleidoscope

Now absence makes you fonder of the memories you lost
when you waved a white surrender to the winter's holocaust
and when it's over, gently escort me to my room
where there's cash to pay the piper this infernal afternoon

A Mother's Call

by @miserableoracle

I heard a noise,
I notice them running around, my boys,
I'm a single mother, there wasn't much of a choice,
I struggle, but only for them, my cute noise..

I left behind my ambitions,
To raise my children, with manners and determination,
I left behind a world,
Which was once dear to my heart..

I run a mile, so that you can roam in a car,
I sweep the house clean, so that you can make it your gaming bar..
I love you, and will always do,
When you play, please don't go far...

My heart breaks to see you bleed even a little,
You cry water and I bleed blood a litre..
Your clothes, your games, your care, I have done what I could..
My child, say to me you'll always stay by my side, even if a lie..

Depth of my love for you, oceans tag me with respect,
Steal money from my wallet and I wouldn't even suspect,
How was the ice cream you ate, nice ? I've got the taste of it, great..

I won't let you get hungry,
I'll make your favorites, ready ?
Let me stay up all night and cry,
Because you fell ill and bed-steady..

Let me cry on behalf of you,
You take my happiness and now go play,
I'll kill those monsters,
Which gets you scared at the bay..

Sleep peacefully my child, I'm here by your side forever till god draws us apart..
