A short myth about Dionysus

Dionysus was one of the most beloved gods of ancient Greece. The Olympian god of wine, party's and pleasure but also of supreme excitement and horror. He was a descendant of Zeus and a mortal woman called Semele. He is actually the only one of the 12 Olympians with mortal blood.Hera obviously pissed and wanting to punish her and Zeus for being naughty tricked Semele into convincing him to take an oath in order to appear before her in his true form. That didn't go all that well because in all his magnificence he burned her alive. Dionysus later journeyed to Hades aka underworld to save her which he did and eventually she became a god herself. So no harm done. But that's another story .When he grew up, Zeus taught him how to cultivate grapes and make wine. Dionysus thought that this gift should be shared with humanity but because he was being chased by Hera and her minions he couldn't bring it to them, so he decided to entrust the delivery of this great invention to a beautiful colorful
bird with a wonderful voice. The bird happily agreed, took the small basket with the grapes and the instructions to wine making and took off singing. Time passed quickly days turned into weeks and weeks turned into months but nothing happened, the wine never made it to humanity. Dionysus was frustrated but thought he should keep trying
This time he decided to take a whole new approach to his problems, he searched for years and years until finally he found the strongest most bad-ass lion in the world and explained what had to be done .The lion's name is lost in time but what we do know is that it took some convincing since the lion besides being extremely strong was also pretty stubborn. In the end he agreed and set out to deliver the goods.Dionysus felt sure that everything will turn out just fine, he was a pretty positive guy to begin with so he kept partying with his nymph and satyr friends. Time passed but yet again nothing happened. Dionysus almost gave up but at the last moment decided he will try one last time.
For some reason the best he could find was a donkey however brave but not very bright, the donkey said yes right away.Saddled up and set out slowly but steadily. Years went by but Dionysus had faith in his donkey and waited patiently. At long last after nearly a decade word got to him that humans had acquired the magic invention called wine and were having orgy's in his name along with his nymph and satyr friends. All ends well, everyone is happy even his relationship with his step mother Hera is improving. Although trying to kill him for the biggest part of his life was a bit of a bummer but hey the guy was in a drunken frenzy most of the time. Now what do we get out of this story ? Except the fact that the Greeks had a wild imagination obviously .Nine times out of ten myths and legends are essentially parabolic stories and this one in particular portrays the stages of drinking. At first you are light as a bird and in a good mood as you keep drinking you become the lion brave and strong . That's the point you get your ass kicked for being a smart ass with the bouncer. And the final stage being as dump as a donkey .Although once in a while doing the "DONKEY" isn't such a bad idea.
