Ch1 Jessica (Rabbit) has entered the Lion’s Den – Wolf’s Den – of her own accord and is neck-deep in her greatest desire (Be careful what you wish for).

Ch2 Red is speaking to a Wolf she knew from long ago and has been astonished once by his revelation.

Entwistle was trying to engage the receptionist in conversation, but she was disinterested to the point of rudeness.

When the door to the main office opened, Entwistle snapped to attention almost, and Laura giggled.

As he returned to the boss’s office, he thought he heard her whisper something like, ‘Renfield’ but he wasn’t certain, and it puzzled him.

“Did you want me, sir?” Entwistle asked as he closed the door behind him.

“Yes, Jessica is to get an allowance and Paul is to be given the choice of being her escort and if he accepts, he will teach her in our ways and he will protect her.”

“But sir, I could…” he began but stopped talking when he saw the fury pass across his boss’s face.

Jessica saw the expression too and she was suddenly reminded of her nickname and how very appropriate it was.

They were dismissed, and Jessica followed Entwistle out of the office and back into the reception again. She was relieved to find Paul still waiting.

Whether he was waiting because he had been instructed to, because he was chatting up the receptionist, or because he wanted to make certain that she was all right, she didn’t know and didn’t care. A familiar, if not altogether friendly face, was there for her.

Jessica did see Paul’s wink at the receptionist and the not-quite so frosty smile in return, but then they were back in the corridor lined with doors.

Jessica realised that they had walked around the inside of the building and had completed the full circle at the top of the stairs.

She followed Paul back down them to go back into the bar.

As they waited at a quiet table, Jessica became increasingly aware that all eyes were on them.

She looked around and couldn’t be certain, but she thought the clientele had changed.

She leaned forward to whisper, “Are all of these people…” she didn’t use the word ‘werewolf’ because of what she had just learned about how the use of that word was received.

He looked around at the other occupants of the bar to check. “Yes, all Wolf.” He nodded as he spoke, further affirming the fact.

“Humes are not usually allowed to leave here. Do you realise that?” he said as a matter of fact.

“Do you mean ‘alive’?” she whispered.

He smiled, showing lots of teeth. “Exactly, once you’re here, the only way you leave is as a corpse or as a Wolf. But don’t worry, you’ve already made that choice and been accepted… for some reason. Now I have to make a choice too. Shall I be the one to teach you our ways or shall I pass the responsibility on to another Wolf, probably Entwistle?”

Jessica was tempted to tell him that she didn’t want to be given to Entwistle, but she held her tongue and studied him for a while as he tried to ignore her.

The decision that he had to make soon took precedence over amusing his guest and she began to feel uneasy because she could sense his manner altering little by little. He was still looking at her, but in a way that made her think of someone studying a delicious cut of meat on a butcher’s slab.

He appeared to have become very clinical.

Soon, despite the excitement of the danger surrounding her, she began to feel tired; it had been a long night so far. She lowered her head onto her folded arms and drifted off to sleep whilst thinking that she was in a very odd place to be relaxed enough to sleep. Her fingers twitched as she drifted off as though she was grasping for something.

Almost immediately, she was in a dreaming state. Her mother came to her, not as she remembered her, but smashed and bloody as she would have been after the train crash that had claimed her life and made Jessica an orphan. Behind her was the dark shadow of a wolf, but it was not black like the one she had seen pass over the face of the man that Entwistle referred to as ‘my Lord’.

Her grandmother was just behind her mother, between her and the wolf, and she brushed past Jessica’s mother. Jessica recoiled from her grandmother as her face seemed to darken and become black and swollen, one side of which was horribly deformed from the stroke that had killed her.

With only one side of her face able to show expression, Jessica could not hear her nor could she lip read what the old woman was trying to say because of the paralysis which prevented her lips moving articulately.

Jessica turned away, distressed beyond measure. She had not been allowed to see her grandmother after she had died; they wouldn’t allow it because she was so horribly deformed by the stroke.

A fleeting thought occurred to her, how could she know what her grandmother looked like after the stroke?

Really good quality writing! I'm pretty new on Steemit but from now I follow you and will read the recent Parts. Thank you!

Wanting more as always, @michelle.gent! I am incurable...or is that Incorrigible?

Not leaving alive very Werewolf, will we meet any Lycans?

I love the content of your book. It shows proof of a good writer. I wish I could get one in the future. Weldone Madam!

Dreamstate, where we learn. Where we let go of the mortal, and behold the possibilities. I think Jessica is going to have a nasty headache when she wakes up, but then again maybe not. I am still hooked.
