Fictioneers Writing Contest - 20 SBD Prize!

in #writing7 years ago

If you were tuned in for Tuesday’s show, you know that we have raised enough to move on with our next Conflict Prompt Writing Contest. Many thanks to @darxide403, @geke, @carolkean, @jasonbu, @authorofthings, and @bex-dk, both for their lovely and consistent presence in the Fiction Workshop and their generous donations to the prize pool. We’ve raised 50 SBD so far from donations. The post payout so far on the contests and radio show announcements to my account has been 6.45 SBD and I’ll make it an even ten, so that allows us to guarantee a 20 SBD payout for each of the next three prompts. Our goal is to raise a total of 180 SBD, so that each week’s winner can receive a 30 SBD payout, with the exception of @geke who won the delegation prize in the first week. If by some incredible generosity we get even more, we will distribute that extra: half to @SFT for its own prize pools, and half split among all seven winners.

That’s right… I can math

This week’s Narrative Conflict prompt is “Man versus Self,” described as follows:

A person’s struggle with his or her own prejudices or doubts or character flaws constitutes this type of conflict (Hamlet).

So please note that this is more of an internal struggle. Please stick to the prompt and remember we will be judging the entries according to the standards set out by the @SFT curation trail. What do you mean you didn’t know @SFT had a curation trail? Clearly we need to spend more time discussing the awesome progress and opportunities of the Fiction Workshop, and less discussing Moorcock.

If you don’t get Moorcock, it’s cause you weren’t listening

The winning piece will be read live on the air Tuesday, September 26, as part of The Fictioneers broadcast, hopefully with the author joining to discuss. Please note that this is the day after my firstborn--my first baby--turns eighteen, so I will likely sob throughout. Rules are:

  • Entrants must upvote and resteem this post to help our future payouts in the contest.
  • Deadline for submission is 11:59 pm EST, Sunday, September 24.
  • Submissions must use the tag #conflictprompt so reviewers can easily find submissions. You may also link your submission in the comments, but if the tag #conflictprompt is not used, we cannot guarantee it will be included in the judging.
  • Must be a complete work. While @SFT does curate parts of longer works, entries to this contest must be stand alone.
  • Word count may be no more than 500 words. This allows for careful review, and challenges writers to make every word count.

Entrants are welcome to submit pieces to the Fiction Workshop on MSP PALnet; judges will be recusing themselves from critique. So get your thinking caps on and let’s see what Steemit can produce!

Also I realized I exceeded the word limit so I went and fixed it. So please don't disqualify me lol @jrhughes
