As simple as a cover letter may seem, It has the power to steer you into getting your dream job, even if an employer doesn’t ask for a cover letter, it wouldn’t be harmful to send one. In fact it is more likely to help you get their attention.

Salutation
It is necessary to address your cover letter to the appropriate person.

Introduction
You need to write a catchy introduction about yourself and how your skills are a perfect fit for the job.

Hook
This part on one important part which should be taken serious, because it is where you highlight your past achievements as they relate to the job you are applying for.

Skills
Computer skill is very much in-demand by almost all companies and organisations, so it is advisable to include a computer skill in your cover letter.

Conclusion
Briefly recap your strong points as an a potential employee and include your contact information.

Basic skills
Your cover letter must highlight some basic skill you possess and how it will benefit the company when considered. You need to convince them in few words how you can help them achieve their goals. You are marketing yourself and so the employer must be convinced enough to buy.

Flexibility
Your cover letter must be customized for each job you are applying to, so you need to review the job description which will give you the desired keywords that the employers want to see. Those keywords should be used throughout your cover letter.

Activities
You should include some activities you have been involved in so far, like a research which might be similar to the high points of the company. Always ask yourself, what value can I add to this company? For example if you are applying to an administrative position, be sure to include your time-management skills; if you are an information technology professional, include your knowledge in improving efficiency.

Spell Check
Proof reading is a very important thing you must do, don’t assume spell check will detect every mistake. Take time to slowly review your cover letter and it is also a good idea to have someone else read it for you

Do not overuse the word “I”, it can be a pitfall, avoid the repetition of the word
