Take a Tour With Me Through The Outer Banks Sea Food and Craft Festival

in #walkwithme7 years ago (edited)

Okay, I'm a little late with this @natureofbeing but please forgive me for I have had a lot on my plate here lately. I'm finally getting around to posting about the craft festival that I told you about that reminded me of you while I was there. But first, let's warm up with a few more puppy pics! :)

Okay, that's enough...

Alright, last one I promise!.....for now

My wife and I recently ventured out to Kill Devil Hills which is a small town in Dare County in North Carolina, actually on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The whole purpose of the trip was to attend a sea food and crafts festival near the beach that my wife wanted to go to.

This was by far the largest festival that I have ever been to. It was so large, you would have had to been several stories up in the air to have taken a photo of the entire grounds. It was divided up in to two sections, one section for food, music and adult beverages and the other was for arts and crafts. The picture above is of the entrance to the food side. Straight ahead at 12 O'clock is where a band was set up with a dance area, at approximately 1300 hours in the photo is a rock wall climbing area which I did not partake in. Under the two tents to the right were bunches of different sea foods for purchase. Everything from Clam chowder to coconut shrimp was available. Just across the way was beer and wine vendors, which I did partake in by the way.

On the food side you had to purchase "Sea Bucks" if you wanted to buy anything in that area. Regular currency was not accepted for some reason. The only reason I can think of is that they didn't want to have to worry about messing with change??? The thing about it though is, they were non-refundable and you couldn't spend them on the crafts side so....
We bought 20 dollars worth and had extra left over by the time we started to venture towards the crafts side. We ended up using it on a bottle of water and then gave the last couple of sea bucks to some lady walking by.

Lobster mac and cheese / Shrimp clam chowder

Thought about you here @rebeccaryan lol I don't even have to say anything....

I was blessed with nice grass that day (the kind that you cut with a lawnmower @rebeccaryan )and I know that sounds odd but it's the truth! Ya see I have bad feet and can't walk very far without extreme pain and whatever type of grass was at this place was really comfy to my feetsies!

Okay, now this was a first for me so don't think bad of North Carolinian's for this because I have NEVER heard of this before.

Yes that says MULLET TOSS on the sign! I mean, what the hell could this be all about?

Well, it's about throwing dead fish through the air Bandit! What else did you think it would be, jeez?!

The goal is to see how far you can throw your dead ass fish. Clearly this lady is enjoying herself and she didn't do all that bad actually. There was a man standing down the field with flags marking each contestants distance and returning the carcass back to the firing line :/

ACTION SHOT

Here was a great place to sit and enjoy the breeze from the ocean and enjoy a glass of wine or three.

Now that we've made it over to the other side, here comes all of the arts and craft photo's. This type of thing is normally not my cup of tea but it seemed like everywhere I looked, I saw something that reminded me of either steemit or someone I know on steemit. I also have a new found appreciation for hand made things no matter what they are, just as long as someone put their emotion and creativity in to it.

I fell in love with all of the exotic wooden crafts that were there! There were some really nice pieces with some really nice price tags attached!

I thought this was cool

This was another piece that I thought was interesting...

steemit....steemit

This was a fun bridge to drive across late at night. As long as there's no cars around, you can hammer down and get up on her a lil bit because there's no place for the fuzz to hide at on the bridge :) Not that I done anything like that.... That would be very irresponsible for a retired officer to do, now wouldn't it?

I like these...Quack Quack

Of course the wife loved this stuff.... Me, not so much but gotta go with the flow.

Cool painting a kid created

I loved this!

HMMM....SEE WHAT I MEANT ABOUT SEEING STEEMIT EVERYWHERE I LOOKED?!

I thought of @natureofbeing when I saw this piece and even told my wife about her.

I like this one

I really like this painting even though it's dark and gloomy, I still like it.

Textured/3D and you can see through it

I just like how it's see through so the background will be the same color as your wall.

They even had candles for crying out loud lol!

Well, I hope you guy's that made it to the end have enough data left if you used your cell phones lol. Sorry about all the pictures, I can get a lil carried away and I didn't even upload all of them. I hope you enjoyed the tour as much as we did. Sorry again @natureofbeing for the delay in posting this. I hope you guys have a great day!

I don't even no where to start...LOL!
Gorgeous pictures. I love the painting of the sea too.
Good job on this piece all the way around @bluelightbandit!

Well, just don't start on Dirty Dick's unless you like crabs. Do you like crabs, Becca? When I saw that sign, I knew that I had to take a picture of it for you and that you would appreciate the humor in it. That bar is pretty well known at the beach for the way the staff talks to the patrons. They are intentionally vulgar to everyone. I, myself have not experienced eating in there because I just don't think I would like being cussed at. Although, it depends on the character and personality of the person as well. I can take a joke and play along but I'd rather just not be called names in that type of environment. I remember when they first opened at Myrtle Beach and everyone wanted to go there just to get cussed out and I'm like WTF? Just come to work with me one night and you will get called every name in the book. Whats your thoughts on it? Would going in to that type of bar/grill to eat bother you, knowing that the staff is going to curse you and call you names?

I wanted to buy that painting of the ocean 😔

Well @bluelightbandit, that's the type of bar I usually end up on...so I'd say I'd be giving the staff a run for their money and you should remember this tidbit
I loved the Dirty Dicks sign but I couldn't tell if that was directed at me or if you were directing the gluten-remorse my way because you ate macaroni...
The way I see it, either way, whether you end up on a bar or you eat macaroni, you still feel a little dirty the next morning ...for what seemed like an ok decision at the time. LMFAO
Totally speaking from experience. Hahaha!

No, I knew you would appreciate the humor in it, thats why I thought of you. You're so good with your lil quips here and there, this one just had your name on it lol. What makes you think that I ate the macaroni, hmmmm? You know what they say about assumptions, dont ya?

Outstanding.
This is one of your best posts ever. You took us with you on a lot of your covering of the festival. This should get you some Steemit attention.
I am hoping for you that it does. You have earned it with this post.
So many photos and your good comments along the way.
I have enjoyed your walkwithme.

Francis

Thank you so much, Francis! I have been meaning to upload all of these photos for quite some time now but part of me has been procrastinating due to knowing how long it was going to take to upload them all lol, poor excuse I know! Your excellent post I read this morning helped motivate me to start writing about all of these pictures I have taken that are just waiting to be shared. Hopefully now I can get out of this lazy spell!

I love this posts from the amazing photos to the great commentary! Great job man! Makes me want to and visit, even if it just to get the crabs! LOL

BAAAHAAA! Great comment, thank ya ma'm!

Thanks so much @bluelightbandit for the fantastic post, I really enjoyed your words and visual story and appreciate you thinking of me! mullet toss?? throwing dead fish is truly bizarre, isn't it?! Great to see the makers there - I like your taste since I'm drawn to those wooden swans and the waves in the dark painting as well. Fun to see the mosaic, it's rare to see so much at a craft fair, and of course the mermaid :-).

Hope you're feeling better these days and again great post!

Hi @natureofbeing! I'm glad that you enjoyed the photos, I find it interesting that you, @rebeccaryann and I love that dark ocean painting so much lol, I wish I would have bought it. The wooden crafts/swans really caught my attention and were amazing! I have much respect for people that make such beautiful things out of stuff like just a block of wood.

Yes, the mermaid just spoke to me and at that particular time I think is when you were really in to your beautiful project with your mermaid. I remember saying your name outloud when I saw it and my wife asked who I was talking about, so I of course had to log in to steemit and show her your work. I also showed it to some of the vendors there as well.

The mullet toss....bizarre, that's a great word for it! I was surprised and a bit confused when I rolled up on that. I will have to research that and see if I can find out anything on it. It was just something that you really didn't expect to see at that type of venue lol. Beach music, wines and craft beer tastings, million dollar yahts being sold, really tasty food, huge variety of arts and crafts and then an area dedicated for throwing a dead ass fish....smh 😕

I'm just glad that I finally got around to uploading all of these and making a post about them. I feel bad because I remember telling you about seeing that mermaid and thinking about you and you said that you couldn't wait to see it and how long has that been now? Better late than never I guess lol. Thank you for the visit and kind words, I hope that you and Lucy are doing well!

thanks @bluelightbandit, Lucy and I ARE doing well! Sending you wishes for good health and wellness.

Omg I ROARED laughing at the Crabs sign, that is priceless right there, just priceless marketing!

This was a very beautiful family photo, thanks for including it:

Thank you so much, @lyndsaybows! We're a small and simple family but I'd lay down right now for either one of them.

Yes, the Dirty Dick's marketing angle is very clever indeed! I just had to slip it in (pun intended) this post for @rebeccaryan. Since she loves using her clever lil quips, I knew she would get a kick out of it. I'm further glad to know that you have a good sense of humor also! I know several people would be offended by stuff like that, so I try not to make too many ripples in the water here in steemit land. But damn, some people also need to learn how to relax their anal rings also....😎

I noticed that you're from Turttle Island. That's not the same one in North Carolina where Eustace Conway lives, is it?

Loved the festival especially your take on it. You have a way of finding the most interesting photos and of course the narration is always amusing ! Be well my friend. 🐓🐓

Thanks bunches! These have been on my phone for a bit now. I actually had several more pics from this venue but got tired of uploading from my phone. Thanks for everything!

This was one of my favorite posts to read, ever! So much fun! And now I'm really hungry for clam chowder. Haha.
