My First Downvote! I am a Victim of @grumpycat!

in #vote6 years ago (edited)

I don't like to play the victim role. I am just quoting @grumpycat.

This is the message I received on a recent post:

You have been victim of a @GrumpyCat flag because you or someone else sent money to buy votes from an irresponsible non-GrumpyCompliant service.

@sneaky-ninja @pushup and @aksdwi are acting irresponsibly by selling votes to people on their post in the last hours before payout. = 99.99% abuse rate.

Sending money to these bots is also financially supporting for-profit spammers.

To know what voting bot to use, refer to https://steembottracker.com/ and use those that have 3.5 day or less in the "Max Age" column.

Here is what I know

  • @grumpycat targets bid bots that allow posts that are over 3.5 days old in an attempt to reduce spam
  • @grumpcat is a powerful account - lot's of Steem and Steem Power
  • @grumpycat self-upvotes its own comments for a significant payout

That's it. There is a lot of other information out there, but I am having a hard time figuring out what is heads and tails.

Here is what I suggest

  • If you are planning on using bid bots then make sure that their "Max Age" is 3.5 days or less. There is a great tool called https://steembottracker.com/ that shows the Max Age for Bid Bots.
  • Don't be naive! If you are a small fish in the ocean, you always run the risk of being eaten. Be careful what battles you pick. Some are worth fighting today, and others are better to wait for tomorrow.
  • Don't let someone's post, comment or reply cause you to react emotionally. Take some time (if needed) to cool down before responding.

Final Thoughts

I am not accusing any bid bot of any wrongdoing. I believe that these tools can provide a great service to the community. They can also be used in bad ways by bad people. I personally do not believe that we should throw out the baby with the bath water.

Voting (both upvotes and downvotes) are about of our life on Steemit. We need to learn to use our voting power wisely. We also need to accept that other people may not use their votes the same way we do.

Have you ever been downloaded? Have you ever downvoted someone else?

I look foward to hearing from you.

Sorry bro, I don't even know how to downvote!! lol

You know what? I don't know how to downvote either :)

I know about flagging but I have never flagged someone. Maybe I just learn more about both and then write a post about it.

Flagging? that sounds kinda neat! Got no idea tho. ;) Looking forward to your post!

Wow!! What a bummer @sumatranate! I had no idea! Here's a well-deserved upvote. At least it seems the slight is against the bidbots and @grumpycat is just using the votes as a way to inform the general public.

Thanks for the comments and support. I am not sure who is slight is against honestly. I do not like spammers taking advantage of the system, but I don't appreciate someone using a noble cause to champion their own personal gain. There seems like there is a lot of back and forth communication on this topic (some good and some bad).

I don't think it would have stung so much if the message had been delivered in a slighty kinder way.

I took a look at it. The good thing is that the downvote did not take away any value so @grumpycat is really just using it as a tool to educate us. Good to know!

Just curious. What are you looking at to see if downvote took away value? Is there a tool that I am missing?

This is what I see from GINAbot on discordapp.com

I saw that. Although I’m not willing to get in the middle of any of these wars I have nothing to do with and don’t really even understand, I do believe that just like in the real world, we should all be free to use our voting power, SP, SBD and voice any way we choose. If you’re too morally superior to take part in something you consider wrong, then you’re reward is a clear conscience. But you can’t expect everyone to have the same moral compass or ethical belief that you have. If you choose to take the popular standard of a moral high road, you’re reward will be acceptance. But I don’t think it’s anyone’s business to take it upon themselves to be judge, jury and executioner of someone who chooses to take the “low” road and look out for themselves, doing something that is allowed on the platform.

I am not ready to get involved in any wars either. I really like how you described rewards:

morally superior = clear conscience
popular standard = acceptance

That is really deep. It is making me think about life in Steemit and off.

I think what bothered me most is the "judge, jury, and executioner" mentality. When possible I think that we should give warning. That is not always possible, but it can be done more often.

@sneaky-ninja @pushup and @aksdwi are acting irresponsibly by selling votes to people on their post in the last hours before payout. = 99.99% abuse rate.

Ohh! Is it illegal to use bot? Four days ago, I transferred SBD to @pushup in exchange of SP for the first time, but this bot refund me and said that post must be less than 5 days old for a @pushup.

No, I didn't downvoted anyone, nor have been downvoted yet :)

Don't let someone's post, comment or reply cause you to react emotionally. Take some time (if needed) to cool down before responding.

Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated!

It is not illegal to use bots, but not everyone thinks that using bid bots are good. Some people think that they are wonderful.

And a lot of bid bots have their own rules. It is a good thing that a bid bot sends you back money if you did not follow their guidelines. Imagine if they took your money and did not give you any benefit. That would be awful!

Glad to provide some advice. Thanks for interacting with my posts!

It is a good thing that a bid bot sends you back money if you did not follow their guidelines.

Ohh! I didn't know about that we have to read their guidelines too, Thanks for informing! and Yes they returned my money ;)

Thanks for informing us :) To people like me it's very important :)

I am glad to help. You still have the right to use an upvote bot after 3.5 days. This is not an official Steemit rule, but I would recommend being careful as you learn more.

I just got downvoted by grumpycat myself...

It was an odd feeling. Not glad it happened, but I do appreciate that I know more about what is happening. Not necssarily glad about what is happening, but at least I have more information now to move forward.

Oh no! Sharing the same sentiment as others here - so sorry. I have to say your response is admirable - very measured. There has to be a better way to communicate concerns but as you said in your post, we have to take the good with the not-so-good when it comes to voting. As I mentioned prior, we are experimenting with bots so while we have not been downvoted perhaps it's coming. Thank you for prepping us in case it happens. Upvoted :)

Thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate it.

I don't want to detour anyone from using a resource or tool on Steemit. I am not blaming the bid bots. But the reality is that some people dislike them enough to downvote people who use them. I hope that sharing my experience helps people know how to chose the right bid bot or how to take a stand so that our community can grow.

I appreciate your continued support. Keep Steeming!

So is Grumpy Cat a system bot? I do not understand.

I do not believe that Crumpy Cat is a system bot. This account appears to be manually operated. I am basing this on the following post:
https://steemit.com/abuse/@grumpycat/round-2-because-i-m-lazy-flagging-highest-sp-bot-with-highest-max-age-including-shitposts-no-resteeming-though

OK, I took a good look at GCs wallet and it's filled with SP so obviously this cat initiated his account with lots of bucks. I'm just trying to learn the ropes, not do a tight-rope walk. Thanks.

Keep learning. That is the only way that you can move forward. And if my mistake helps you learn faster, then take advantage of it.

It sure is a large account.

I did not find any upvote abuse in your previous post, this is strange, why you should be a victim, if the bot is not banned
I feel this is unfair treatment of minnow
someone, should immediately take a firm stance, because giving a downvote without prior warning, is very regrettable

Karenaa memberi downvote tanpa peringatan sebelumnya, sangat disesalkan

Thanks for your support @kharrazi!

Terima kasih banyak. Saya tahu saya sangat dipeduli dalam situasi ini. Semoga sukses di Steemit!

Grumpy is a thief. Plain and simple

There is a lot that I do not understand about the GC account. It just shows that if you have a lot of power you wield that power as you choose.

My hope is that as I grow I can both champion noble causes in words and deed. Thanks for stopping by!

it is possible here to do just that. There are people working on changing it.

Wonderfully worded. I hope you do!
