c0ff33 Vlog 28th September 2018 Replay after Replay for me @c0ff33a ☕️
My Friday evening started with Working late with Witty It is always handy to work late and listen to @enginewitty show because there are no instructions or background noise making it easy to listen and join in the chat - although it was so busy with people this week I didn't get chance to. Lot's to enjoy with poetry readings and even a song at the end - watch the video recording back to enjoy it all again. While listening in I rebuilt and tested a domestic coffee roasting machine ready to sell, and also set up a new colour label printer to be used for labelling retail coffee bags - so a productive evening all round.
After recording the vlog while driving home, there was not much time left until a show in @minnowbootcamp discord introducing the new @steemcreative Witness - another lively show with plenty of people present and with many different topics covered. It is good to get involved with a variety of shows, even if you only listen in you can learn alot about the plans people have for moving the Steem Blockchain forward. I am definitely going to be adding my Witness Vote for @steemcreative - it is just a matter of working out who on my current full voting list needs my vote the least.
That finished just as @helpie started their own discussion - led by @meno the usual post schilling Fridays had been replaced this week by a general confidence building discussion. It was an inspiring session, it certainly gave me things to think about and the @helpie group took on board well all the reasons why HF20 isn't as bad as it might have first seen. During the evening my own Witness server had been replaying 20.4 which would help by increasing the amount of resource credits we have available so everyone would get a fair chance of making a good volume of interactions.
After all that is was already heading towards 2am, my Witness Server had finally finished replaying 20.4 so I went to bed. And woke up to find 20.5 patch had been released......and it needs another replay. Another Saturday spent installing updates and wishing the replay would work far quicker then it does. The updates are working though, people are seeing full resource credits bars, and finally my own Vote Power Mana had reached 70% so I could start putting out a few tentative votes. That worked well - keeping the votes around the 20% region did not drop my Mana hardly at all, a 100% did but you expect that.
So now on Sunday 20.5 is being run by the majority of Witnesses and it's new set of rules are helping everyone get back to normal interaction. My boy's account only has 58 SP but it is showing as having 73 comments free to make right now, and Resource Credits recharge so unless you can use all those in a short period of time they would always be recharging. In the long term making interaction on the blockchain cost out of your allowed credits will encourage wiser use, we should see less flippant comments and better engagement.
And that sums up this weeks vlog, I might get back to a curation one some time. It's been an interesting few weeks, and to be fair my day job is getting more and more hectic so balancing my time is harder and harder. The actual dark vlog video is below to watch back.

I've been running a test with a 15SP account I have.
and , results are not good in the long run for any new accounts.
I foresee a problem with this unless there's a change. Otherwise, newbies will unlikely stick around.
right now, using a new account, I tested using a small 15 SP new account.
Started at 100% RC
one tiny comment (shit comment 3 words) abt 3% RC used
one normal comment (two-three decent sentences) abt 4%
two decent comments (an entire paragraph Lorem Ipsem) abt 4%
and one double comment (two para's of Lorem Ipsem) abt 5%
Takes RC's down about 20.5% total
all made within abt 5 minutes total.
I left the account and 12 hours later, only about 10% RC had regenerated, with no other activity.
This means, Newbies are drastically reduced in ability to ever grow.
Short of spending to BUY in to Steemit.
This will kill onboarding.
Am I missing something?
I recognize the thinking was all about trying to deal with SPAM accounts and reward pool harvest, etc. However am hoping there is some patch put in place to help newbies. Otherwise, there will be little chance for anyone to get anywhere on 5 or 10 comments a day, hoping for regeneration at 0.83% an hour, or totally back to 100% in 5 days.
Ya, def needs something done, perhaps a regen speed boost would be sufficient enough maybe?

I say all this, knowing, that ALL of you, @enginewitty, @c0ff33a, @thekitchenfairy, @followbtcnews, @crimsonclad, @yabapmatt, @patrice, @aggroed, @themarkymark, @lukestokes, @timcliff, @pharesim and many more have worked tirelessly.
I appreciate it, and my comment here is in no way an attack on the work, done, or the HF itself. I'm hoping for a patch, for selfish reasons... as I want Steemit to succeed and if we aren't seeing new members onboard, we're eventually going to shrink and lose more stakeholders and investors, as well.
I will test this out as well by having a friend open an account and see what the results are. Unless this has been brought up before we can open an issue ticket on github! I will follow up. Thanks @bluefinstudios

It's a bit scary to think those brand new will take months and months to grow enough to come close to being able to comment, or post, or upvote effectively.
those FIVE comments on that 15 SP account?
it's now 24 hours later, and the account has gone from 76% RC, to 95% RC
I'll test the results with a post, tomorrow (presumably, it will be 100% RC by then)
We are gonna start testing, exactly a week after the HF. Since its generally assumed that the new balance is gonna be settled 5 days after the HF. We have the account with 15 SP standing by.
I will update you once we did the same scenarios as you have described :)

We're having a hard time encouraging all the young, new members here.
We're trying to keep them buoyed, but I'd hate to think that this HF is going to cause so many to give up and leave.
As it was, engagement, commenting etc... was difficult enough, and now, there's a limit on comments. That was the only way that new members could effectively grow their accounts.
