Hello and thank you for this interesting article. It is especially helpful to me because I am beginning to collect literature on cryptocurrencies in communities where official money is very scarce or where hyperinflation has become a serious barrier to obtaining basic goods and services using official money.

A good paper on how cryptocurrencies are being used to help people make daily purchases in Venezuela could get widespread reading, if it was published in a place like Coindesk.

I would like to participate in writing that paper, and if you have additional information that would be helpful in producing the paper, please let me know. I would welcome your collaboration in the project. You can survey my professional background by clicking here and clicking here.

Basically, I will be searching for detailed information about (a) persons' cryptocurrency trading activities (e.g. buying goods and services with cryptos), (b) how helpful are the results of that trading, and (c) limitations or barriers encountered in trying to do the trading.

Why do I believe this is important? The potential for cryptocurrencies to help to facilitate access to basic goods and services, by means of facilitating intra-community trading, is as important, in my opinion, as the potential for the block chain to revolutionize aspects of the behaviour of organizations.

I know that I'm comparing apples and oranges in making that remark; but what I wish to emphasize is that there is enormous worldwide potential for cryptocurrencies to be helpful in communities where access to official money, or the hyperinflation of official money, are serious problems.

And one interesting thing about this idea is that there is no reason for either governments or the banking system to get upset if cryptocurrencies are used in this way; precisely because they're not supplying cash into those communities. So, this usage of cryptocurrencies does not compete with what they are doing, and may even allow governments to increase their tax revenues.
Cheers!
