My Vegan Diary #1

Steem Fam!

Wow! It's actually been a while (2-3 days LOL) yes, a while! I have been stuck in my room watching Prison Break AGAIN. I was actually trying to get my cousins to get addicted so they can practice their English a bit and guess what, I just coulnd't move nowhere for a few days LOLOL! Lucky enough I don't really have to go out much as I got all the vegan food my family gave. Yes! It's still during the Vegan fest! :)

Vegan Festival?

Last post.. no, the post before last, I was talking about the Jeh Festival or Vegan Festival in Thailand. I explained a bit what / why / when / where so if you'd like to check it out, please do so! :)

Thai Vegan Food

We're still in the period of Vegan Fest! It's 10 days and we're pretty much in the middle of it. I have been eating tons of tons of food and oh my, really doesn't feel like I'm eating Vegan food at all, really! (I just lied!) but really, it's just soooo flavorful and so much meat O.o!

Oh!! We're in Thailand, that's why!

I am so lucky to be born in a family that run a food business. Since I remember, I have seen them been working so hard running this family owned restaurant. It's always busy ! All my family members love to cook. I do too but most of the time they don't let me LOL

This time, I went to visit my family for a few days and had a chance to eat some meals made by my aunts and my grandma. I would love to share this with you! as really, you would find this somehow intesresting.

Kao Tom Kui (ข้าวต้มกุ๊ย)

Kao tom is pretty much a rice soup (no taste!). It's just that you pour a lot of water when you cook it and leave it in the pot for a while. We have this type of rice with a lot of stuff you probably have never tried if you're not from Thailand or somewhere Chinese related :)

Here are what we have with the rice soup..

Yum pak kard dong (ยำผักกาดดอง)

  • Yum means spicy salad (Mainly with fresh chilli, lime juice and fish sauce(During Jeh fest, they use soy sauce instead))
  • Pak kard means Lettuce
  • Dong means Pickles

So it's pretty much 'Spicy pickled lettuce salad. Taste pretty sour and spicy and a little bit of sweetness.

Tao hoo yee (เต้าหู้ยี้)

  • Tao hoo means tofu

I'm not hundred percent sure what 'yee' means but this whole thing you see is pickled tofu and soy beans. The flavor is super intense. Sooooo salty a bit of sourness, I believe.

Ga-na chai (กานาฉ่าย)

Pickled vegetables with Chinese Olives and shiitake

Oh my! this is sure a weird one! I have seen and eaten those for many years (just like any other things here LOL). This one, if you're not used to it since you're a kid, I'm positive that you wouldn't like to try it due to its look! It just doesn't look good really. Though, its taste is just so umami and I love eating it with hot steamed rice so much!

Oh! This is not much of a Thai food but more of Chinese kind of dish.

Pad Ka Prao Moo Sub (ผัดกะเพราหมูสับ)

  • Pad means stir fry
  • Ka prao means basils
  • Moo sub means minced pork

This one, one of the most popular dishes here in Thailand 'Stir fry basil with pork' as it's easy to make. To be honest, It doesn't taste like vegan food.. it tastes like pork because of all the texture and everything combined. Have it with rice is the best!

Pla kem tod (ปลาเค็มทอด)

  • Pla means fish
  • kem means salty
  • Tod means fry

My most favourite vegan food during the Jeh Festival of all time!!!!!!!

I don't know how but Thai people make this imitation fish tastes better than the real one! LOLOL Maybe cause it's not that salty and the fact that you know it's made from soy beans.. makes you think it's healthy to consume LOL

Kao tom (ข้าวต้ม)

This is the rice soup we talked about and you eat this with all the stuffs above. Very easy to eat and it's just so light that will just make your tummy feels so good before bed. Yes! that was our family's dinner meal! Sooooo yummy :)

Bua loi nam king (บัวลอยน้ำขิง)

  • Bua loi is that round shape dough you see. It has ground sesame inside.
  • Nam king is ginger tea

This is also one of my favourite dessert of all time. It's so yummy and at the same time, I really think it's healthy! Gingers have so much health benefit and yes, black sesame and ginkgo also.

You could totally feel the heat creeping in but then you have all these toppings to cool you down a bit : Black sesame dough ball, ginkgo, soft tofu and sweeten monkey apple.

Oh my! I'm getting one this evening!!!!

I hope you find this new and interesting! You totally coudln't find this in every place in Thailand as they do sell it in just some of the shop that sells the rice soup. No worries though, they are everywhere! LOLOL

Lots of lots of love,
Mo ❤

Honestly the Vegan life can get very creative!
Because you are going to search for new sources for your proteins!
Cool! 😍

This is just super duper tasty!

I bet! with all of those spices and ingredients that thing must taste very tasty!!! :D

Man! I so wish I could go to that festival! I'm not super big on pickled food though. I like kim chi sometimes...but only if it's really made well. Often it's not here, and just gross.

I wish you could come! There's one every year so you have time! :)

I need to start using a calendar and put it on there. There are a few things I want to go to around the world, like the Jenever Festival in Belgium. I personally hate gin, but when hearing about it, it sounded like great fun. It's two days and they actually fill the town fountain in the city where it originated with Jenever, which is the original version of Gin. I think I'd like to taste what it originally was supposed to taste like, and maybe figure out if there's a drink with it that I actually like.

There's also a cool Halloween festival in the Phillipines where they dress up as zombies that really sounded fun.

I think it would be cool to eventually one day travel to some of these cool festivals around the world. It might cost a lot to jump on a plane for a festival for only one day, but with the cost of rent and food and healthcare these days, if you are frugal, it's pretty much the same cost to travel the world as it is to live in an expensive first world country.

Maybe you should consider trying to work with a few others to do a Steem meetup in Thailand next year for the festival. There are a TON of vegans and vegetarians on Steem. It might be appealing to be able to go to a Steem meetup at the same time as the festival. Two birds, one stone, lots of fun and food. :)

Wow hahaha I can feel the excitement there. Like reading the whole post but just the comment itself! That would be a good idea to gather steem peeps and go to some fest together! Though, people are not free all the time like I am. They do have work and most of the time when I want to hang out, they have some stuffs lined up, really! Once in a while is also damn cool! :D

This looks really edible to me haha. I'm not a vegan, but 90% of the food I eat is kind of vegetarian/vegan anyway. The best "vegan" food I've ever had was Ethiopian - the flavours are so amazing that you don't miss the meat and fish. Looks like Thai vegan is similar.

In Thailand, talking about Ethiopian, we think of those with very thin body and no food to eat (Don't blame me ! Blame my environment!! LOLOL). Maybe I'm in such a small world and actually had no idea what's Ethiopian food looks like.. (but I will so a bit of a research). Thai vegan is so dang good Ade!

I don't feel hungry T^T

Mo

Great post as always
However the world is awaiting your next premier so quit watching prison break and get moving girl. !!!!! Lolol

I'm joking. I hope all is well 😎

See you in the next video!!!
I think that's how you say it

Maybe that vegan food making you too tired. Lolol.
Maybe you lose all your 💪 strength

ใช่ค่ะ !

What a great guide. Vegan food is fantastic, nutritious, cruelty free and far better to the environment than any animal based products. Great to see that there is whole 10 day festival there to show just how fantastic it really is.

Are you a vegan?? I mean, I love eating vegan for a bit and it's good to switch back as well. I love the fest though! Feel a bit healthier than usual :D

Vegan AF, I used to eat a whole lot of meat and dairy and to be honest, I have never felt as fit and healthy as I do now. I love to see people opening their eyes to the wonderful tastes that "vegan food" offers. You know the world really needs more people to ditch meat and dairy f we are to survive as a species.

Have a great day :-)
