GitLab: English to Filipino Localization Project [Part 1]

This is the third whitelisted open source project that I contributed a translation activity and at the same time as an approved translator for Filipino language - which is an initiative being spearheaded by @davinci.polyglot and @utopian-io.

GitLab as per Wikipedia is a

“web-based Git-repository manager providing wiki, issue-trackinng and CI/CD pipeline features, using an open-source license, developed by GitLab Inc.”

While I was translating this project, I remembered when I started contributing to the bug-huntig category of Utopian. In the bug-hunting category the guidelines states that the bug report must be submitted as an issue and would be great if acknowledge by open source project owners, to which I learnt along the way while submitting bug reports to eSteem mobile and web applicstions and eventually improved my bug reports to open-source projects such as SteemPlus, SteemApp (Android and iOS version) and lastly, to 1ramp (formerly known as hapramp). Moving back to GitLab, as I was translating, I learn that issues can also be a bug report or an idea or suggestion that helps the project to improved or perhaps an inquiry to the project. Along the way, having a manager for a project’s Git-repository is very vital both to the users and project owners. For project owners, it helps them to prioritize certain aspects of the project’s development and as for the users, especially those open-source contributors, it would help them to stay up-to-date to the development or activities of the project, for example, a user finds a bug on the application/software and he intends to report it and he didn’t check the issue tracker for the repository (sometimes issue trackers are being placed with labels, such as “bug” for bugs, “ideas” for suggestion or improvement and etc.) and because of that he reports the issue and sometimes it would to being acknowledge in two ways: acknowledge by the project owner in conjunction with the previous issue being opened by a certain user earlier than him and sometimes, the issue being closed by the project owner since the issue has been reported already and is about to fixed in the next or upcoming release of a project. And lastly, I learnt that GitLab also is a Git-repository hosting service which is similar to GitHub.

This is my first translation report for the GitLab localization project. The source language is English and I localized it to my national language which is Filipino. And then, the Filipino Translation Team decided to start with the file entitled as “gitlab.pot” and I was assigned to translate starting from page 24 up to 28 of the strings to be translated for this file. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to use the “Show All” feature Crowdin yesterday for the translations which include both the translated and not translated, and with that I accidentally started translating this string #4307 which is found in page 27 and translated up to string #5301 and also string #5041. And today, I continued my localization activity, from the start of Page 24 which is started by string #4979 and up to string #3992 which is found in page 26 out of 61 of the gitlab.pot file. Additionally, as obtained from Reports of my translation, I was able to accumulate 1,220 words inclusive of the codes and non-translatable words, and after counting those words that are not translatable (see below for the outline of the non-translatable words that I’ve met while localizing this project) which amount to 187 words. Therefore, I managed to translate 1,033 words for this report. In the picture below, it shows the total number of words I have translated yesterday and today.

• Byteball WiKi: a total of 1,631 words translated (Part 1 and 2)
• Steem White Paper: a total of 2,191 words (Part 1 and 2)
• GitLab: currently at 1,033 words

In total, I managed to translate 4,855 words for those aforementioned open source projects.
