Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time environment that executes JavaScript code outside the browser.

Node.js brings event-driven programming to web servers, enabling development of fast web servers in JavaScript. Developers can create highly scalable servers without using threading, by using a simplified model of event-driven programming that uses callbacks to signal the completion of a task. Node.js connects the ease of a scripting language (JavaScript) with the power of Unix network programming.

In easier to understand words: Node-js is a free platform whose goal is to provide its users the possibility to create lightweight and cost efficient web servers, how does Node.js do this?

Node.js handles web server connections in a way so they don´t take up as much space in a server, and thus, the owner of a project would not need to invest as much money in multiple servers to store so much information in Gigabytes.

Being an Open Source Project, Node.js possesses immense value for providing so much while at the same time being totally free.

Contribution Specifications

314,269 words have been translated so far in the Spanish folder of Node.js, which amounts to a total of 29% done in regards to the completion of the translation of this big project.

A project of such importance challenges me to become better as a translator and pushes me to further work on my discipline to research every concept I do not understand to provide quality contributions.

Translation Overview

In this contribution I finished translating the second addons.md subfolder of Node.js.

The strings that I translated explain the different uses and functions of the various hooks, API's, classes and flags found in addons.md.

These are some examples:

An "AtExit" hook is a function that is invoked after the Node.js event loop
has ended but before the JavaScript VM is terminated and Node.js shuts down.

Then, in <0>myobject.h</0>, the wrapper class inherits from <0>node::ObjectWrap</0>:

N-API is an API for building native Addons.

<0>node-gyp</0> can be run using the <0>--nodedir</0> flag pointing at a local Node.js
source image.

Also, I learned some additional concepts as well while working on this contribution for Node.js, on addons.md:

1 . "Hello, World!"

"Hello, World!" is a computer program used to illustrate the basic syntax of a programming language, perfect for beginners who wish to start learning programming.

It also spells out the message: "Hello, World!"

References for this concept:

2 . AtExit

This concept is a little bit more complicated, so I decided to show the description for it for a better understanding instead of explaining it with my own words:

The atexit function registers the given function to be called at normal process termination, either via exit(3) or via return from the program's main(). Functions registered are called in the reverse order of their registration; no arguments are passed.

The same function may be registered multiple times: it is called once for each registration.

DISCLAIMER: The rest of the words that appear as untranslated are long strings full of code that cannot be translated.

I translated an approximate amount of 900 words in this subfolder.

Additionally, I started translating the second fs.md folder.

"FS" stands for "file system", which refers to the management process of where data will be stored within a storage disk; such data is usually stored in a hard disk drive.

Some of the other operations managed by file systems are: storage management, file naming, directories/folders, metadata, access rules and privileges.

As shown in the previous picture, I translated 100 words in this subfolder.

The strings that I translated had short sentences and messages, only one of those strings had a concept I didn't know anything about, these are some examples from fs.md:

ENGLISH (1): Emitted when an error occurs.

SPANISH (1): Se emite cuando ocurre un error.

ENGLISH (2): Emitted when something changes in a watched directory or file.

SPANISH (2): Se emite cuando algo cambia en un directorio o archivo observado.

ENGLISH (3): Emitted when the ReadStream's file is opened.

SPANISH (3): Se emite cuando se abre el archivo de ReadStream.

This time, the new concept I learned about while working on this subfolder was ReadStream:

ReadStream is an asynchronous method used by servers whenever they get a request to serve big files.

Languages

The project's source language is English and it is being translated into Spanish.

Also, Node.js is currently being translated into other 32 languages. I´m contributing to making this project accessible to the Spanish speaking community online.

Besides collaborating as a translator for Open Source Projects on Crowdin I also work as a Freelance Translator for a law firm in the US, I've been working for that company for 11 months, translating sworn statements and legal documents from English to Spanish and viceversa.

Open Source Projects I've worked on and contributed to as a translator:

1 . Verdaccio

2 . OroCRM

3 . BiglyBT

4 . The Curious Expedition

5 . Node.js

Hi @elpoliglota,

Congratulations on your 27th contribution to Node.js.

  • This is a very interesting project that contains many code values and terms related to computer science. Its difficulty relies on the fact that we must pay a lot of attention to the code in order to deliver the most accurate translation possible.

  • Your presentation post follows all the general guidelines, it is very well written and formatted, includes all the basic details, as well as useful examples.

  • Thank you for sharing clear and precise concepts you learned while working on this contribution.

  • Once again, you delivered an accurate translation. You used the correct vocabulary and you were careful with code values that should not be translated in order to make sure the text keeps its true meaning.

Your contribution has been evaluated according to Utopian policies and guidelines, as well as a predefined set of questions pertaining to the category.
