Ulog No. 37: "My Definition of a Perfect Relationship"

in #ulog6 years ago (edited)

Imagine you are in this kind of relationship:

Clare Valley, SA

You and your significant other are "lovey-doveys" that you always agree with each other and have never had a disagreement about anything. You don't stir each other up.

"stir somebody up" means to deliberately try to cause arguments or bad feelings between people. Longman Dictionary

You both never get angry at or annoy each other. Your priorities are the same and your responsibilities are shared equally. And you REALLY hate spending time apart because you're completely in love with each other and just absolutely absorbed in each other's company.

Well, REALITY CHECK, guys!!!

This is totally nonexistent or can only happen in a daydream or our own fairytale. The above-mentioned scenarios don't exist in what we call a perfect marriage. It cannot even come close to our ideal relationship goals. Well, if these are our goals, then we are definitely in for a surprise.

When we are in a serious relationship, our kind of fantasy will surely clash with reality. We tend to forget that every relationship is made up of two people who are not perfect, who have weaknesses and failings. So if we are hoping for a perfection in a romantic relationship, then we are just going to be let down by our own expectations especially when trials and difficulties in life start to test it.

Perhaps we need to assess our description of what a perfect marriage or relationship looks like. The Bible tells us this:

loveispatient.jpg
The Twelve Apostles, Great Ocean Road, VIC

If we are going to base our definition of a "perfect marriage/relationship" from the Bible, then it means there has to be an unselfish and unconditional love given by both parties. If two people who proclaim love for each other are both willing to stand together in love despite the challenges and difficulties of life they will face, they will then form a strong bond - a formidable team.

For me, it might not be all hearts, flower petals, or the sun, moon, and stars all the way, but the love my husband and I have for each other makes us kind and patient towards each other and not resentful. We both love each other generously. We both know that it is our responsibility to develop a rich relationship by giving as well as taking. (If I never give, then my selfishness will turn him off, and vice versa. If I never take, then I am a doormat, not a wife.) We also allow each other to be real even if it means that we are limited but changeable human beings, and we both look to God for guidance and strength when life seems to be awfully hard. For me, this is perfect and I would not want it any other way.

Thank you for reading. If you have any comment or feedback, or if you'd like to add any input as to how you would define a perfect relationship, then please feel free to comment below. Thank you and bye for now!

That's totally right, there is no perfect marriage/relationship. Even to those couples who might seem perfect, they also go through trials. What really matters in a relationship is you both learn how to understand each other's imperfection and never give up on the love/vows you have promised.

Well said, sis @dynamicshine. I love you!

Hey! You're back! We've been checking your blog periodically to see if there are any new postings. Today's a happy day. :-)

Thank you, @bananamemos. I have been so busy. August is a crazy month for us. Lots of happening at school and we also have increased in enrolments. It is a good problem to have though. Yeah it was a happy day and I was inspired when I wrote my post after two weeks of absence yet again.

hello evlachsblog excellent article in 24 years of married with a beautiful woman and I am 48 years old, and she left with the Lord, in my experience there is always some difference, but there are important points in a marriage to take it as when you met her, TRUST, RESPECT, COMMUNICATION, COMMITMENT, TRUE LOVE AND LOVING GOD ABOUT ALL THINGS.

GOD BLESS YOU GREATLY

Thank you, @junfer. I am sorry to hear about your wife's passing but knowing she's with the Lord gives you peace and comfort.

Yes, in any relationship, especially marriage, having God in the centre and loving Him above all things is the most important ingredient to a successful partnership of husband and wife.

God bless you, too, always!

Very very happy to read this ,in todays relationship people tends to be self centered forgetting the real definition of love ,the love because of what they want to gain not what they will offer to their partner ,thus making that word "love" to become a thing most people don't believe in .

Base on how you have started your relationship with you husband and to some extent that you and him endures for each other ,you love will be like solid rock that can never be moved .

Stay calm and have a great day.

Thank you, @egbujorvictor! I do pray that God will continue to strengthen my bond with my husband. Like you said, "a solid rock that can never be moved." I like that!!! Have a great day, too!

I usually browse steemit from my smartphone while on the can

Good to know. :-)
