The oldest tree in the village - #TreeTuesdays

I have waited almost 5 days to upload this post onto Steemit to finally join in with #TreeTuesdays. I was inspired to write this post from a competition I had seen from @kus-knee a week ago, check out his post below.

I mentioned in one of my earlier posts that I was helping my sister move house on the weekend. She is moving from the busy city centre of one of the UKs biggest cities to a rural part of the UK which is predominately surrounded by countryside.

It was a snowy Saturday and while we were loading stuff into the house a man came over and introduced himself as the second oldest thing in the village. He told me how he had lived on this street since he was a child in the late 1960s with his family. He had 2 brothers and a sister but as they were all older than him they had all passed away so he was the last one in his family other than his Son (who had moved to London with his family).

He went onto tell me about what the road used to be like when he was growing up. Prior to the development of the houses the area was just pure farm land with about 4 small houses. Over time while the price of land went up, and so did the amount of house being built on it. Take a look at the picture below where I tried to capture (A very poor attempt) the rows of fields behind the housing development.

When he had finished telling me about the road I asked him “so if you’re the 2nd oldest thing in the village, what is the 1st oldest thing?” He told me that when the farmer who owned the land sold the plot to the housing development company he requested that they built the parameters of the house around a specific tree. Much like the competition winners of @kus-knee https://steemit.com/savedtrees/@kus-knee/the-old-dog-presents-our-saved-trees-winners the house was built to accommodate for the tree!

He then went on to tell me that over time the housing companies have chopped down the trees so less wildlife comes to the area, however in Spring time a variety of Birds can be seen making nests in the branches and without that tree being there they would have no reason to come here. He also went onto tell me about The Great Adventures he had growing up playing with his friends in the area.

I took some snaps of the tree below!

Unfortunately due to the weather conditions of the day I wasn’t able to take a picture however I will follow this post up hopefully with a higher quality image.

Let’s hope this Tree can last another century!

I saw some great #TreeTuesday pictures today and as well as recognizing them in their comments sections I thought it was worth sharing the blogs below!

@solbadans, @livewell, @kalemandra, @alexandraioana26 @animal-shelter @ervin-lemark @brandt and @assasin all capture great pictures similar to mine, but with a lot more snow!

Cool story! Great idea by the farmer who sold the land to request they keep that tree, too bad they didn't keep more of them. Thanks for the mention :)

Thanks for your comment @Livewell. It really is a great shame that the tree is the only last remaining testament to the area. The area seems to a hot area for housing developments, so the future does indeed look bleak. Im looking forward to more snaps on your blog!

Thanks for the response.

You do a great job of interacting here on Steemit!

Beautiful sinewy tree. Lovely how you learnt about the tree's history and significance in the village @bit-sp. I hope others will see the need for trees to be planted in this area again, so that the birds will always have a place to nest. 🦋

I forgot to add to my last post, i have started following your blog, your community spirit is great, and im looking forward to sharing your posts and pictures.
