Travel Tip: Stramberk, picturesque historic town known as Moravian Bethlehem

Dear Steemit friends and followers,

Welcome to my Travel Tip series where I promote some of the most beautiful places, interesting landmarks and impressive architectural sites of my homeland, the Czech Republic.

Today, I would like to take you to one of the most beautiful little towns, the picturesque town of Stramberk.

Located in the Wallachian Region in the Eastern Czech Republic, Stramberk is a little town with a population of just about 3,500 people. Despite its small size, however, the town has a very long and turbulent history dating back to the 14th century when it was officially founded and given the town status.

Surrounded by a beautiful landscape of the nearby Beskydy Mountains, the town of Stramberk is dominated by the Strambrek Castle that is easily recognizable by its majestic gothic tower Truba.

The historic center of the town consists of numerous old buildings and unique timbered houses built in the 18th and 19th centuries, which earned the town the nickname “the Moravian Bethlehem”.

Except for the picturesque architecture and impressive natural surroundings, the town is also famous for a local food specialty known as the Stramberk Ears. It is a sweet pastry made of special honey dough shaped like twisted ears. The Stramberk Ears have been baked in the town for centuries to commemorate the famous victory of local Christians over the feared Tartar army back in 1241.

The town is also home to several interesting museums, the mini-brewery Trubac and a beer spa.
