Discover Ukraine - Beremytske Nature Park

in #travelfeed5 years ago

I saw pictures of animals and a beautiful landscape, and told myself - I want to go there! But when my husband and I arrived and saw everything with our own eyes, it turned out that everything was much more serious here.

Unique rewilding project

Beremytske Nature Park is the first and only place in Ukraine where you can see rewilding methods in action. Park staff recreate the pristine nature that was in these region thousands of years ago. It means that they inhabit the territory with those species of plants, animals, birds, insects that will form the closed biological cycle of the ancient region of Polissia. It is the first non-governmental environmental project to be part of the Rewilding Europe network.

For thousands of years, people have greatly influenced these lands. Hunting animals and deforestation has changed the look of this forest. Now, these lands have lost agricultural attractiveness. They look abandoned and wild, but in fact, nature recovers very slowly. Therefore, the work of these people can't be overestimated.

How to get

The nature part is located in about 70 km from Kyiv. You can get there by car or by bus (better to start from the left bank). It will take about 1 hour and 20 minutes one way. The road is narrow but very picturesque.

On my way, I didn't notice any road signs or boards about the park, even right on the site. That was unusual. But the bus stops right there, or you can find Beremytske Nature Park on any map. Anyway, you'll not miss the entrance.

And, unlike many modern sites here, the park has huge parking.

Service and infrastructure

My first and deepest impression was - Man, how much tourist-friendly this place is! You know, in ex-USSR countries Nature Reserves and parks permanently survive a critical lack of funding. But here things differ.

Beremytske Nature Park was opened for visitors on October 13, 2017. Its square is 60 hectares. Everything is new, modern and eco-friendly here. They plan to purchase audio guides by the end of the year. The management of the park have exciting plans. They want not only to restore nature, but also to show people the ancient culture of their native land, as well as increase the demand ideas of harmonious living with nature.

The place isn't crowded yet, but they have everything you may need. Places to rest, modern and spacious toilets. They will give you a free map, and you can pay by card. By the way, the full ticket costs 150 Hryvna or about 6 US dollars.

Also, they have a map of park and itineraries in a bigger size:

The paths on which horses and other vehicles ride are paved with asphalt. Other ground footpaths are strewn with mulch. In the rain, there will be no dirt, and it is environmentally friendly. I loved the idea very much.

It is a perfect place to come for an entire day with the whole family.

Things to do

They have several activity options and nice service. You can ride a bike or a horse, or come on your own bike, or take an eco-trail, shorter or longer. Or to climb the wooden watching tower to overlook the territory from the high. Did I mention you can rent a binocular right there?

Also, there is a small conference hall where you can try VR glass and see how the whole territory looks from high up in the sky in different seasons and watch videos about the park and its animals. It is interesting, you have my word.

When you get hungry after a good walk, you can purchase a snack and a beverage in a self-service cafe or eat the meal you bring with you. The cafe is a platform with wooden tables and benches, which is covered with a roof. Instead of walls there is a transparent film so you can enjoy nature when you eat.

Oh, or you better rent a house for 6 persons with everything you'll need for a picnic, from a grill to blankets and disposable but eco-friendly houseware. Doesn't impress? For just $12 per day.

Want to feel more in wild? You can rent a tent! That's fantastic. Everything is thought out to the smallest detail. This is very unusual for us, so far.

My virtual tour

It was an incredible day, the middle of October but very warm. So no wonder I took a lot of pictures. I will do my best to make it short, but... when I'm so excited about something, I can't stop :)

It may appear surprising, but the pride of Beremytske is a Ukrainian gray steppe cow. They are the descendants of a wild Aurochs (or urus, or ure) that the Trypillians tamed. In Ukraine, they are preserved in only two places.

There also a few Deers and Saiga antelope. The second is a resident of the steppes, formerly extensively inhabiting Europe and Asia and now on the verge of extinction. In the 3rd shot, it is a well-known goat.

This is their stable. It was a time of a dinner break for horses, but the keeper was very kind and let us in. Horses had a delicious lunch - apples and carrot! Yummy :)

Literally around the corner, there are cute min-piglets of the fancy breed. Those guys are very quick! Your children will be delighted!

Further along the trail, there is a museum of wild cats. Also, they have a funny (and furry) chickens, pheasants, doves of decorative breeds.

Next, there is a Mini Zoo. It is a petting zoo.

Also, it was the first time in my life when I saw a moose! One grown-up moose and one baby-moose.

We proceeded to the other (fenced) part of the park, where there are no paved trails, and you can meet horses living and walking freely. There is a small human-made pool with turtles. Unfortunately, I didn't see one. But we saw a heard of horses. They don't rush away but also don't let you approach too close.

I'd like to spend a whole day here, but we had to go home. Here, my report comes to the end. I hope you enjoy it, and once you're in this area, you will visit it.

Thank you for your time to read my report and your kind support!

Cheers,
@zirochka

That was very enjoyable zirochka! Did you guys climb up that lookout tower? I don't think you did or we would see photos from the top right? Anyway, what a fun place to spend the afternoon!

I don't think you did or we would see photos from the top right?

Spot-on! LOL. There were people up there when we pass it by, and we decided to not climb. Getting more lazy with every year :)

Oh that's okay, you guys will be back some time I am sure!
