Today is Thursday, which means we're featuring three outstanding articles from Europe, starting with two hiking stories. The first takes us to Ireland, on a day whose gloom provided the perfect atmosphere to a walk in the hills. The second expedition got off to a rough start, because the night before the hike to Mount Kazbek had been filled with nightmares. In the last feature, we're taking you back in time to when the Republic of Yugoslavia still existed, and crossing the border was an adventure.

It was a mopish day which actually matched perfectly with the vibe of this Irish National Park. After crossing a stream near the visitors center, we walked a bit to the point where our path crossed another path which went to the town of Glendalough.

I even dreamed that our host, which was a nice old lady, was a witch and cursed me to this damnation, and later, that someone before I was going to sleep, put some mushrooms into my food or drink, which caused all of these hallucinations.

tern-faced border guards with machine guns (and scars to match those guns), systematically interrogated all the passengers aboard as we waited at the crossing. As they moved up the carriage, a procession of criminal-looking characters were booted off the train.
