Motorcycle Riding Tips for Keeping Safe - Parked cars

in #travel7 years ago

As motorcycle riders we should always be cautious of parked cars.
When passing parked cars we should always move over to the opposite side of the lane as much as possible and give ourselves plenty of room.
Drivers who pull up on the side of the road may see a car coming don't the road, but may not be looking for your motorbike. It's much worse for push bike riders but we motorcyclists should always be careful.

Another good reason to keep your distance from parked cars is quite often the driver in the parked car will stick the front end of the car out before taking a look to see if anything is coming. So if your too close when this happens you will hit the car.
Also people can step out from in between the parked cars, so you also increase the likely hood you will hit a pedestrian.

Of course trying to lane filter or lane split between the parked cars and traffic is a really bad idea for all of the reasons above.
As always ride safe and smart :)
