Exploring Venice - Colourful Houses on the Island of Burano

in #travel6 years ago

Venice is obviously well-known for being completely surrounded by water, with channels running directly through the city itself. It makes sense then that there would be other small pieces of land nearby that also might house small communIties. One of them is Murano, which is most famous for the glassblowing, but another a little further away by boat is the picturesque island of Burano. Similar name but quite different in look and feel.

Burano is known for the brightly coloured fishermen's houses and the various small family seafood restaurants that overlook the water. I arrived just before lunch and made a quick trip around the island, which probably takes around 20-30 minutes on foot. Whilst walking it was great to pick out the different coloured houses that really pop quite vividly, not only on camera but also in person. It was a nice experience but as this is a tourist spot it took quite a while before the streets cleared so I could capture these canals without anyone walking by the side of them. The amount of selfies taken in front of the houses was quite incredible and will probably all feature on Instagram at some point! haha

Little did I know before I arrived that this area is famous for the lace-making, linens and clothes are still being made here and are quite expensive to buy. You just have to beware of the cheaper knock-off type quality ones that are sold in some of the shops. But overall I really liked this island and hope that I might be able to visit again in the future. Who knows. I hope you like these photos that I took while there.

Hey @oen, I am a curator of the Whaleshares Curation Team. I have selected your post to be presented in a live curation discussion on Monday 9th April. Your post will be awarded a 100 Whaleshares vote on the night. I do hope you can come along and spectate. The event will be held in The Curation Lounge on the Whaleshares server. Here is a link to a post explaining things: https://steemit.com/steemit/@nikflossus/tonight-the-21st-whaleshares-curation-show-featuring-yidneth

Hey @nikflossus! Thanks so much. I missed the live discussion but really pleased you mentioned me. It means a lot. Do I need to do anything or?

Such a beautiful city. Id love to go there. Maybe once crypto picks up i can take out some fiat and visit. At the rate i accumulate SBD it might take a while. haha.
I love that you took to the streets rather then just focus on the main attractions. That shows the city from the point of view of those that live there.

I hope I can travel to some new places if this crypto space ever picks up again :D In the meantime I'm collecting ;) haha Looks like you are doing a really good job! Keep it up :)

the colours are so vivid... and the place so beautiful... I guess you had a great time, wonderful photos

Thanks for your comment @yidneth. Yeah, it was a really fun day. Lots of tourists but I still found some little places of quiet on this island! haha

I saw your post on the Whaleshares Curation Show. Congratulations on the feature!

I have never heard of Burano. All of the colors and textures are quite delicious! The reflective / glassy water shots are my favorite.

Yeah. Burano is a nice place. I didn't know I was featured but I'm glad I was :) Thanks for letting me know!

It seems we have had this conversation before. ;) Weren't you the one with the Henry Moore post a month or so ago that got featured?

Glad to deliver the happy news!

Haha yeah, that was me! It's like deja vu :D Appreciate you letting me know ;) It can be hard to stay up to date with everything on here.

Indeed! Just keep doing what you're doing, the rest will take care of itself. Have an excellent day!

Very beautiful!!!

Ugh, I really needed to be more jealous of your travels. :D

Haha thanks for commenting. I've been travelling a little lately but plan to take a break for a while I think :D
