Travel #3 - Jakarta 26/04/18 - 29/04/18 Part 3

28 April

Selamat Pagi.

Woke up early with Kamisah alarm clock for her morning prayers, had a snooze, cause knowing there will be another one ringing at 7am.
Planning to go to the wet market today as Kamisah was determined to find Tapai for her mommy and we were both all geared up ready for another shopping expedition.
Had breakfast at the executive lounge and Kamisah suggested to go to the market with Go Jek 😱😱😱😱😱 I did have a heart Attack when she mentioned it. Now all nervous about it.

Luckily after breakfast and after much coaxing to not get on the Go Jek in case we get separated or in case one of our Go Jek bring us somewhere else, we decided on the Bajaj instead. Phew!! Massive relief. But after trying several minutes we decided to walk instead to Kwileng market. The streets were jam packed with people and vehicles cause there seems to be some festival or something. Apparently we found out there actually was some happening here that everyone in the entire Jakarta comes to this area. Just our luck!
After a Long and sweaty walk we manage to find the wet market after several direction from several people.

As we were walking through the wet market I saw a fishmonger just scoop up live fish with his bare hand and out in a bag for his customer while the fish was still wrigling, huge fish. Half way through the market we couldn’t find any tapai and one of the lady said that it’s all finished and suggested that we go to Pasar Senen instead.

So off we go and get onto a Bajaj again. Although by now I have taken a few times but the heart Attack still there. Their brakes are really good cause they probably stop half an inch from any motorbikes or cars in front of them every time. Feels and looks as though they are going to bang onto each other. The drivers and the riders have nerves of steel. Maybe I should learn my driving here!!.

We stop by Cikini Holland Bakery so that Kamisah can purchase her Binka Ambon first and then to the other wet market, Pasar Senen. We still could not find any tapai. So we saw a mosque and Kamisah suggested that we made a pit stop first to make some donations.

Kamisah decided to go for the afternoon prayers, I can’t go in the mosque as I as was wearing shorts. We proceed to look for the tapai at another block of the wet market after the prayers and thank goodness found the tapai. Maybe Allah answered Kamisah’s prayer. Kamisah's shopping list done! Woohoo!

Once Kamisah has completed a few more purchases, all the kuih kuih, we decided to go for lunch at Kuta Tua (Old Town) at the Cafe Batavia.

We went on a tuk tuk all the way almost a 2 hour journey. At one stage when we were heading towards Old Town, the driver went to a route where we pass by a train track and he stop in the middle of the track. When Kamisah mentioned it, Kishor and me were panicking why did he stop in the middle? What happen if the train comes or we get stuck on the track. Both of us sat right inside and Kamisah gets to alight first and we might not have enough time to get out 😱😱😱😱😱. Then we realise the driver paid some cash to one guy while stopping. Guess he is the gatekeeper of the train tracks, pay the toll money, I’ll look after you and stop you from crossing and will let you go and if you don’t pay the toll I’m just gonna let you stay in the middle of the tracks. 😂😂😂😂😂

We were all sweaty by the time we reach Kuta Tua (Old Town), as traffic was horendous. But the lunch at Cafe Batavia was worth it even though I had about 50 minor small heart Attacks during the 2 hour journey. Just need the mojito to come straight away!!! Another great culinary Kamisah, well done! Even better refreshment 🤪🤪🤪.

Both Kamisah and Kishor decided to have the poop coffee aka the shit stirrer coffee, they have to literally stir the coffee poop from the civet cat at the bottom of the cup, while I have another mojito. Great band at Cafe Batavia. Another recommendation for all to visit when you are in Jakarta.

This time, Kamisah and me decided to photo bomb Kishor at the Square of the Kuta Tua (Old Town). Just be prepared for the macit (traffic jam). Advisable to take the taxi or grab as its gonna be stifling hot and you would be sweating like a pig if you take the Tuk Tuk if there is a traffic jam. Beautiful scenery of the Kuta Tua Square.

Back at hotel and packed our bags as have to leave early to the airport tomorrow morning.
Had our shower and ready to go for another culinary expedition for our last dinner.
At last we see Kamisah in action with the not so executive service here when she called for the hotel manager on some issue.
This time we went to another colonial building to have our dinner, called the Kunstkring Paleis, (A Dutch word Kunstkring means Art Society) Posh restaurant again and we order a set meal called Rijsttafel!

The Indonesian rijsttafel, a Dutch word that literally translates to "rice table", is an elaborate meal adapted by the Dutch following the hidang presentation of nasi Padang from the Padang region of West Sumatra.
Meaning “rice table”, rijsttafel is a nearly unending parade of small plates all filled with different spicy-sticky-sweet Indonesian cuisine.

Kamisah chose this restaurant especially for Kishor and me to enjoy the food, the presentation and the luxury ambiance!

Verdict? We both gave a 10/10 as we love this place 🧐👌🏻👏🏻😘🌹🌹. Eat like Royalty 👑 and served like King and Queen...

Kamisah and Kishor dance together with the dancers 😱😱😱😱. Lucky they didn’t manage to get me on the floor cause music was almost finished.

We thought that tonight Kishor can keep his hand off someone, it was almost successful but then he saw the dragon on our dining table and had to touch the dragon’s Head for luck or pleasure not sure.

All 3 are exhausted and ready for bed so left for hotel after dinner.
Final packing.

29 April

Woke up at 6 to get ready. Had breakfast and off we go to the airport. See you again soon Jakarta.

Our adventure almost end at the airport, almost. Kamisah was panicked when she was asked to open her luggage, O O, our illegal smuggler, will we get arrested? Can we go home? They scan her luggage and the tapai was the reason why she was asked to open her luggage. She was worried that she might not be able to take the tapai back after all that hard work looking for it. In the end the immigration officer just informed her she needed to wrap her luggage cause the tapai might gives out an odour. Phew! Never boring when it comes to travelling with Kamisah. Almost forgotten to take my watch that was in the tray after the screening.

It was a sweet sorrow moment for us 3 as we have to return back to reality.

It was a wonderful culinary expedition and had an awesome time with Kamisah & Kishor.
Till our next travel adventure Kamisah.....where to next?

Thinking about splurging on a more professional camera, what are you using?

Hi @rocketsteem, whenever I travel and don't have time to properly do any good photography and its such a hassle to bring a professional camera, I usually whip out my iPhone 7plus for a quick shoot. So basically most of the photos here am using the iPhone. Plus easy to upload straight away. But my advise is to do research on a good quality camera before decided on purchasing one. Go to the photography blogs and ask those professional photographers on their recommendation. Always purchase a camera that you are knowledgeable about and knows how to use it.
