Throwback Thursday #2 - Day at a museum
Hello lovely steemians,
this week in my Throwback Thursday post, I am going to share with you some photos of my trip to The American Museum of Natural History in New York, from a year ago, in September. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there and would recommend it to anyone. If you visit New York city and are unlucky enough to experience bad weather, you can spend hours and hours roaming halls of the museum, learning about nature and natural history (including human) and admiring beautiful dioramas there.
Dioramas depicting scenarios of wild life all around the world are beautifully detailed and I was fascinated not only by the beauty of presented images, but also by the level of craft needed to create scenes like these.
Unfortunately, sometimes you can't avoid the light reflections when taking pictures through glass display (also, my smartphone camera is not the best of the best either).
Nowadays, the dioramas have also historical value - they were created in 1920s and 1930s.
Museum has to offer a lot more than dioramas depicting animal's habitats. If you go to natural history museums to see dinosaurs, you won't be disappointed.
I mean, it's mostly bones, and mostly replicas, but fascinating none the less.
And, anthropology section is presented as well in Human Origin and Cultural Halls. Here you can see the Aztec stone of the sun displayed in the Hall of Mexico and Central America.
And this charming person is looking at you from behind their creepy mask in the Hall of African people.
There is a lot more to see in the museum than what I was able to show you in this meagre collection of photographs (for example, the huge blue whale replica floating in the Hall of Ocean life, which I don't have a good picture of) and if you have time and energy, it's possible to spend whole day roaming the rooms.
