Tips:
Tip 1: Enjoy a cold Frappé :
When we travel abroad, a good habit is to follow the advice that says: "in Rome do as romans do". And what do the greeks do? They drink coffee at all hours of the day. So, if you visit Greece, you should not pass up the opportunity to try the Greek Frappé. A Frappé foam-covered iced coffee drink to which sugar and milk is added according to the tastes of each one.
Any time is good to take a Frappé !!
Tip 2: Read some Greek mythology before the trip:
Many tourist attractions in Greece consist of ruins of what was once home to the first civilizations of Europe. It is worth be informed about it to enjoy more of the visits that we will make. Like in a exam, another option is to watch some films. So you have the perfect excuse to watch "300" again or "Gladiator" or "Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief"...
Tip 3: Find any excuse to interact with the Greeks:
In the words of Lawrence Durrell the greek man is <<A man of impulse, full of boasts, impatient of slowness, quick of sympathy, and inventive as well as assimilative>>. I would have summed it up by saying that the Greeks are very nice. In any case, everyone who travels to Greece coincides in how welcoming they are its inhabitants. And if you are at a party with them, do not hesitate to join when they dance a Sirtaki. If they did not say anything to me with how clumsy I am, you will surely be welcomed!
Tip 4: Enjoy local food and drink
This advice would be valid for almost any country. As I see it, there are 2 ways to face a trip: try the unique dishes of the country you are visiting ( preferably something you have not yet tasted ) or look for what we have already tried and better if it is from our country ... it's up to you :)
Tip 5: If you visit Meteora, try to do it on your own.
I love to take photos and I like to go out with few people in them ... call me egocentric if you want. This is the main reason why I try not to visit the tourist sites when they are crowded with people. But usually you would prefer to be quiet while visiting a place instead of surrounded by strangers. In the case of the Monasteries of Meteora there is a great difference if you visit it by your or with a coach full of tourists.
Tip 6: If you visit the Samaria Gorge, keep in mind that:
- The path is always down, so twins, quadriceps and ankles suffer.
- Although you will surely cross some mad/hero who will be in flip flops, I recommend that you wear mountain footwear.
- It is possible to go by ferry and visit only the last part, which is perhaps the most interesting one.
