Well this is my home till 4th of August. The beautiful MS Nautica from Oceania! Working on a cruise ship can be very challenging but traveling around the world is one of the big pluses. Recently we just pass the Arctic Circle and i will share with you the tradition that sailor have for a long time and what happen here on board.
"The line-crossing ceremony" mainly is when passing the Equator but superstitious sailors adapt it for passing the Arctic Circle as well. It is a funny ceremony that guests love and everybody on board (crew or guests) are involved.
Let's see some photos first:

Neptune comes on board to bless the sailors.

As you can see it can be a lot of fun! Now just to let you know kissing the fish is for good luck as in this areas fish is the main source of food. With the ice the tradition says that buckets of ice should be trow on the person but since it was very cold and as you can see some of the guests are old a much less painful solution was found. As well everybody received a certificate for crossing the Arctic Circle and here is mine:

Some days can be really fun on the sea and this one definitely it was!

Wow that must be really cool working on a ship like that. We are living just 1hr south of the Artic Circle. It's beautiful seeing the sun stay up for 24hrs.
Nice post, keep em coming :)

Wow just one hour south of the Arctic Circle, that must be great! I have to admit it is amazing to see the sun up for 24 hours even do at the beginning it was a little bit strange (finishing work at almost midnight and then see the sun up like its 11 am). I am really glad you like the post and for sure i will add more from my travels. Yesterday i book a tour organized by the ship and visit Arkhangelsk (Rusia) so soon i will post a blog about.

I would freeze if I had to stand in that ice water! Oh my goodness!

I bet initially a lot of people though the same like you. But is not that bad as it looks, plus the time a person stays in the ice water is not long. As you can see everybody is having fun!
