Visit with me! #27 - the "Parc de la Ciutadella" (Barcelona, Spain) / Part 3

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

Hi my Steemians friends,

As you know, I live in Barcelona for a few months. I have not visited everything yet so I feel every day like a tourist when I leave my house hahaha. It's fun and it allows me to discover places and unexpected things.

Today, I take you into the second part of my visit to the Parc de la Ciutadella.

Are you ready for the virtual visit my friends?
Here is the first part for those who arrived late =D:

The Ciutadella Park is a green haven for relaxation and breathing in the heart of a city full of energy like Barcelona. It is a unique place where its lake, its flower-lined footpaths and romantic architecture attract the visitors to relax and enjoy the place ...

7- The Museu Martorell (Geology Museum)

source

The Museu Martorell (Martorell Museum) was built thanks to a bequest made by Francesc Martorell i Peña (1822-1878) to the city of Barcelona in 1878. The neoclassical building, designed by the architect Antoni Rovira i Trias, was the first to be constructed in Barcelona expressly to house a museum and was the city’s first public museum, standing in its first urban park. The Museu Martorell has been used exclusively to house geology collections since 1924.

The museum presents various collections of mineralogy, paleontology and petrology from around the world. But with the exception of the library, this center is temporarily closed to the public.

8- Ciudadella Church (Parroquia Castrense)

The church of the old Citadel continues to function today as it is used as a military parish. The author, Alexandre de Rez, has joined the Church of the Visitation in Paris, a work of François Mansart. It is located between the Parliament Gardens and the Prim statue.

9- Barcelona a Prim Statue

This magnificent statue in the middle of one of the Park's squares was created with an architectural design by Josep Fontserè and a sculpture by Lluís Puiggener. Destroyed the original work in 1936, it was replaced in 1948 by another developed by Frédéric Marès. The monument is dedicated to the Catalan army and politician Juan Prim and Prats.

10- Fountain of the stork and the fox (Fuente de la cigüeña y la zorra)

Located at the entrance to the park along the Paseo de Picasso, this fountain is inspired by the fable of the fox and the stork of Aesop. At the feet of the two protagonists are a plate and a vase, two objects also related to the fable. This place is quiet and unbeatable, ideal for a moment of relaxation and freshness.

11- Mamout

source

This reproduction of a mammoth had to be part of a series of prehistoric animals which ultimately only this specimen recreated. It was restored from a fossil found in Siberia in 1901! Amazing no?
The modeling was led by geologist Norberto Font y Sagué and it was the first reinforced concrete sculpture in Barcelona.

It's the end of the last part of the virtual tour of Ciutadella Park!
I am happy to have shared it with you.
Don't forget my friend, you can't come to Barcelona without visiting The Parc de la Ciutadella!
The Ciutadella Park is probably the most idyllic I've seen in a capital! This is an opportunity to discover the greenest oasis of the megacity and relax, long walks, as well as for a picnic or a boat trip ...
