Stay On The Farm (Iceland Day 7)

in #travel6 years ago (edited)

Having already visited all the places on our list for the day, we arrived a bit early at the farm where we would be spending the night.

Two very cute dogs greeted us as we drove in. One looks like a larger version of Opal and the other looks kind of like Opal's brother.

The big dog. The little one will show up later.

After we got situated, we wandered around for a bit. Lots of wide open space and animals.

Above are some goats happily resting and munching on grass. In the background there appears to be some snow covered streams winding to the river. Beautiful.

There was no kitchen available to us here, so we had to use our propane stove to cook outside in the cold. That was some experience...

It looks like I'm the chef here but I am not. And I'm pretty sure we're all just shivering. We did choose the side with less wind though.

Throwing in fish into the rice porridge.

While cooking the dogs were all over hoping to get some scraps. They had to leave empty pawed, unfortunately. Don't want to feed anything the hosts would not appreciate. On the other hand, I could have sworn the big dog was eating poop earlier.

There's the pair sitting patiently for food that would never arrive.

Where's the good smelling stuff!!

The porridge was delicious and most importantly warmed us all up. After a brief rest, we tried out the hot tub that the host generously prepared for us.

There's a hot tub set up in the back next to a private natural waterfall. What a great set up! Getting in and out of there was pretty tough. And it was a bit leafy. But it was pretty nice.

The host seems to dabble in all sorts of things, singing, opening restaurants, working the farm. He would occasionally check in on us, at one point offering us some home-cooked lamb meat. Yum.

After nightfall, we went outside to see if we can catch any part of the Aurora. This would be the clearest shot we would have of the trip. Unfortunately it was not strong enough for the naked eye, though we could see tiny streaks.

With a long exposure camera one of us was able to capture and reveal some beautiful colors. This will be one of those times where the experience in person was underwhelming compared to the photo. Of course, if the Aurora were stronger it would be a wildly different story. So I hear anyway.

Before we left we took a group photo with the host and left one as a souvenir. The host gifted us a CD of songs that he sang. Told us, "learn these so you can come back and sing along." I tried to see if there is anything published online but I could not find any.

Anyway, all in all this was a very enjoyable stay, and if you happen to travel around there I would highly recommend checking them out!

This looks epic, was always a dream to go to iceland one day, perhaps some day, the aurora looks awesome

The big dog is beautiful! It looks like the Labadore Retriever we once had! It looks extremely cold out there but it is extremely beautiful!! You captured some really great shots of the scenery. I love the set up of the hot tub too! That last sky shot is soooo beautiful that it doesn’t even look real. Thanks for sharing this with us~ 😊

Yeah aww those dogs were so cute. agreed on the realness of the sky shot haha... i wish it looked like that in person ;)

Haaa! Well thanks for allowing us to see the beauty~ 😊

Iceland is so far up my bucket list, I can't wait to visit someday!

PS If someone put fish in my porridge I'd think they were pranking me. What a combo! :D

Told us, "learn these so you can come back and sing along."

I keep expecting to come to the part where Kathy Bates shows up with an axe and cuts off somebody's foot.
