The Swiss Adventure: Day 6 - Rapperswil

in #travel7 years ago

An hours worth of a bus and train journey and we were in Rapperswil, located on the east side of Lake Zurich. We set off in the rain but when we arrived, as you will see from the pictures, the weather improved to reveal this little 'hidden-gem' of a town.

We found the Altstadt ("old town" in German), although to be fair this was most of the town. The first thing we saw was the Zeitturm clock tower from Hauptplatz.

Bex had some fun with the huge white letters in the middle of the square in an attempt to claim the area to belong to her. Well... full points for creativity!

Yes! We found a shop called "Brit's Passion". It was filled with typically 'British' things!

At the top of the stairs, we found ourselves at the base of the clock tower as well as a cobbled road that leads up to St Johann's Church (which Bex decided to photo-bomb).

From there, we found a viewing point which gave incredible views of all of Rapperswil and Lake Zurich.

Here we decided to set up the tripod for a couple of 'selfies'. (Warning: the following images contain scenes of affection).

Time for some fun

At this viewing point, Bex discovered a slide. Before I knew it, she had run from my side and began to climb! I think it's clear from her face that she's really pleased with herself!

Of course, I had to get involved!

As we descended down towards the water's edge, we passed a small alleyway that I just HAD to stop and get a photo. It was so picturesque; as though someone had placed the bike there knowing we would be walking past.

Lakeside

After a short walk, we arrived at the Lake Zurich shoreline. The water was pretty choppy for a lake but the wind might've had something to do with it. I managed to set up my tripod to get some really cool wave crashing shots.

In closing

I have to say, Rapperswil has been my favourite town in Switzerland (so far). Every turn is a photograph. I think it also helped that the majority of the town was closed as it meant there weren't too many pedestrians either, which is perfect when trying to take these kinds of photographs.

Thank you, Rapperswil. We will definitely be back again in the future and highly recommend to anyone heading to Switzerland to try and make the trip as well.

Next stop

  • Get off the train in Zurich on the way back to see what IS open.

The trip so far...

It's a very entertaining trip post. great photographers! you are wonderful with your love. I'm following.

Thank you @artizm, that really means a lot. :D We love having fun no matter what we're doing. And thank for the compliment on the photos :D

Looks like you guys are having an awesome time, great place to take your camera by the looks of it!

Seriously every turn is a photograph. Made my job so easy! Haha. We had an awesome time!

This just makes me want to go even more!!

Rapperswil is just stunning, @vtravels! Definitely one for the list!

Amazing pictures. You are right, to take pictures during this holiday season means getting the whole place for your own. It is the same with where I live only it is not as beautiful as there.

Thank you @joytothew0rld, it just makes taking pictures so much easier. You're not having to wait for some family to get out of the way (even though they can clearly see you waiting for them to move, they still take an age to move). I'm sure there's some beauty where you live. Venture out with a camera and I'm sure you'll find it :P
