Day 1: Home to Zurich (via Amsterdam)

Today started early... real early! The alarm went off at 2.30am. Yep! That early!

We got to the airport, parked the car and checked in. We were literally the first people in the airport and got straight through security and into the departure lounge.

Our journey to Zurich was split into 2 flights with a transfer in Amsterdam.

I will say this... Amsterdam airport is HUGE! We got off of the plane, found the next gate number for our plane to Zurich and then realised that gate was nowhere near... it took a good 30 minutes to cross the airport and find the gate!

Both Amsterdam and Zurich airports we so festive, both had so many Christmas trees and lights and decorations up, compared to the airport we left the UK from which had one small, pathetic, little tree...

After landing, meeting up with our friends at Arrivals and travelling to their house to drop off our bags, we headed out to explore the incredible city of Zurich. Unfortunately I didn't take my camera with me, so these photos were taken by my phone.

We learnt so much about the city from our wonderful hosts, like the story about all of the painted cows that were all over the city.

After spending a few hours exploring this amazing city, we decided to plan another visit (with my camera) and see more when we were feeling a little less shattered from the early start and plane journeys!

We headed back to our friend's apartment, who treated us to the famous Swiss dish, Raclette. Oooooooh, wow! If you have never had Raclette, you need to go out of your way to. Melted cheese drizzled over potatoes, what more could you ask for?! It tasted incredible and was so filling. A perfect way to close out our first day on this adventure.

Tomorrow: a trip to Bern!

Awesome photos!
I'm hoping to visit Switzerland this summer after I spend some time in Italy. Any quick tips?

Do it! Haha.

I would say Summer would be a great time to be here. It's warmer, for one, obviously. And there would be more foliage out.

I would say keep an eye on my posts as we have only been here 2 days and we are here for 5 more so plan on doing a variety of things.

Oh, and another thing... Switzerland in general, but definitely Zurich, is very expensive! Everything costs a lot of money.
