My brother (@fronttowardenemy) and I went to Vietnam recently. Join us on our ride through the mountains.

We woke up and had a nice breakfast at the Sunny hotel in Cao Bang. I mainly had coffee, fruit and yogurt. I did try the pork soup and dumpling rolls things but I think i'm going to stick to the more western style breakfast. After we filled up, we were back on the road. This time our destination was Ba Be lake.

We immediately started gaining altitude and it got pretty foggy which made the roads a bit slick. We took our time and played it safe.

As we got to the summit of a mountain, there was a local woman selling these live animals on the side of the road. She just had them hanging by their tails. I wish I would have taken a video because they were just wiggling there. Does anyone know what kind of marmots these are? I've never seen an animal like them before.

Further up, we found the entrance to a secret lair.

That fog made it extra mystical.

We passed through many small farming towns. A lot of farmers had corn laid out to cure. (probably for animal feed.) There were also lots of animals along the roads so we had to be careful when riding by. All the dogs and chickens we passed seemed to be smart enough to stay out of the road when they heard a motorbike but you really had to watch out for the baby pigs. It seems like they would get spooked and just randomly dart out across the road.

We arrived at Ba Be Lake and rode along a small road around the lake to an area where our home stay was. After checking in, we headed out for some photos and to see what we could see.

Off in the distance is where our homestay was at the end of the lake.

We had dinner with the family that owns the home stay. It was absolutely delicious! There was fish from the lake, a chicken dish, spring rolls with pork, and a beef dish all with veggies that were foraged in the area.

There was only one other traveler staying there and we spent the rest of the evening chatting and drinking beer. This day was one of the highlights of the trip. Here's the video.
