One charming city.🕌🌆✈️
There is nothing more beautiful than losing to Venice, wandering without a precise destination on its narrow streets. If you have only a few hours to explore the city, try to lose yourself before visiting a museum or other attraction. Randomly wandering through the city (the tip is to go in the opposite direction to the one chosen by the crowd), you can meet numerous and fascinating Venetian streets, palaces and churches that will reveal a less known part of the city. Let yourself be comforted by the imperfection of the Venetian streets and the magic of its enchanting atmosphere.
Do not hesitate to rest your eyes on the details created by heaven and water, weaving and spreading the magnificent architectural brocades of the city, incorporating in this game all the fantasy of matter: the reflections of the channels in the marble surfaces or the ceilings of the olive color; corrugated images of façade waves; the sunrise in the old dome; the workings of the bridge rails that arched above the dark water; the leaves that unlock the wall of a secret garden or flower pots that guard windows all the way ... Everything impregnated by salinity, coolness and degradation due to moisture and acidic excrements of birds.
Visit Piazza San Marco when it's empty: the best way to appreciate it in all its splendor is in the evening after the tourists left or early in the morning before they arrive. In any case, you will be fascinated by the perfection of its harmonious forms, all bathed in a strange silence that makes it particularly magical.
Grand Canal Cruise Excursions: The easiest and most effective way to explore Venice is to walk through it, but to admire the long series of remarkable buildings overlooking the Grand Canal, it can be a good idea the vapors (called Vaporetti). The lines that cross the Grand Canal are line 1 and line 2. The first line is slower because it stops at all stations, while the second line goes through the canal faster, making only a few stops.
Visit the Ducal Palace: right next to the Basilica of San Marco is the famous palace of Dogilor without a doubt the most beautiful palace in Venice. This is a perfect example of Gothic civil architecture. Visit to the Ducal Palace is payable, but it deserves to pay each euro. Inside it is presented all the power and wealth of the Venetian Republic, in a glimpse of masterpieces that leave you breathless. The ticket includes a visit to the famous prisons, which can be reached by passing through the Bridge of Sighs.
Climb up the bell tower„Campanile de San Marco„: to enjoy a full view of the 98.6 meters of the Basilica, the San Marco Square and the whole of Venice, you can buy a ticket to go with the elevator on top the bell tower, situated in front of the Basilica. The view is memorable: the view goes through the city, the lagoon, the earth, and in the windy days you can even see the mountains in the distance.
Visit the Rialto Bridge: For a full knowledge of Venetian culture, a ride is required on the Rialto Bridge and the adjacent square. This market has been around for 1,000 years, and since the founding of the city, fruit and vegetables have been sold here, but especially the ubiquitous fish. It's a real feast visiting its colorful stalls, the discovery of local products (such as castraure, bruscandoli and spare).
Visit the Basilica of San Marco, recognized as one of the most beautiful in Italy: apart from being beautiful on the outside, the interior is decorated with famous mosaics describing the story of San Marco along with episodes of the Old and New Testaments. Entrance to the Basilica is free, and for this reason it is often necessary to stand in order to enter. The advice is to make an online reservation (always free of charge) so you will have a preferential entry. There are three small museums inside the Basilica, but if you want to visit them or it does not depend on both your interests and the budget available! My advice is to visit the Museum of San Marco, where the original copies of the horses were preserved at the beginning of the basilica. This way, you can climb the balcony overlooking the market to enjoy the wonderful view from above.
The Basilica di San Marco is a symbol of the power and wealth of Venice since its consecration as a place of worship in 1071. This sacred place of Venice combining Byzantine and Gothic architecture was also called Chiesa d'Oro (The Golden Church ). He deserves this name in full, since he is hosting Byzantine golden mosaics. By building the Cathedral of San Marco, Venice brought to the West the spiritual and material heritage of Byzantium.
