🇦🇺 Australian Adventures - Tasmania - green wet beautiful wilderness / Australische Abenteuer - Tasmanien - grüne nasse wunderschöne Wildnis
Tasmania was at the top of our To-Do list for Australia. How we liked it there, what we have done and what is really worth seeing, is in the following travel report.
From Melbourne, the Ferry Spirit of Tasmania took a 9-hour drive to Devonport.
We spent three wonderful weeks on Tasmania, we had great hikes, incredibly beautiful routes (the tourist drives on Tasmania are really special), the national parks are really great, you can do free camping, only the weather could have been better, unfortunately we had a lot of rain and very very cold temperatures.
Tasmanien stand ganz oben auf unserer To-Do Liste für Australien. Wie es uns dort gefallen hat, was wir unternommen haben und was wirklich sehenswert ist, erfahrt ihr im folgenden Reisebericht.
Von Melbourne aus ging es mit der Fähre Spirit of Tasmania in einer 9-stündigen Fahrt nach Devonport.
Drei wundervolle Wochen haben wir auf Tasmanien verbracht, wir haben tolle Wanderungen unternommen, sind unglaublich schöne Strecken gefahren (die Tourist-Drives auf Tasmanien sind wirklich ganz besonders), die Nationalparks sind richtig toll, man kann wunderbar free campen, nur das Wetter hätte etwas besser sein können, wir hatten leider viel Regen und sehr sehr kalte Temperaturen.
Our highlights on Tasmania
Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park
This national park is located in the center of Tasmania and is probably one of the most visited national parks on the island. There are different hiking trails, from 10-minute to several-day hikes there is something for every level. At dusk you can see Wombats and anyway, the national park offers a particularly remarkable piece of nature. The flora is breathtaking.

Cradle Mountain-Lake St Clair National Park
Dieser Nationalpark befindet sich im Zentrum von Tasmanien und ist wahrscheinlich einer der meistbesuchten Nationalparks der Insel. Es gibt unterschiedliche Wanderwege, von 10-minütigen bis zu mehrtägigen Wanderungen ist für jedes Niveau etwas dabei. Bei Dämmerung kann man Wombats sehen und sowieso bietet der Nationalpark ein ganz besonders sehenswertes Stück Natur. Die Flora ist atemberaubend.
The Wild West of Tasmania
The West of Tasmania is rough, wild and wet. We made lunch at Rosebery, the place with the highest rainfall in Tasmania. Rosebery also proved this to us verbatim - we had to cook our food in the rain. But the nature created by these weather conditions is unique. The highway led us through dense rainforests with house-grown ferns, uphill and downhill. The mountain road to Queenstown is also nothing for weak nerves.
Der wilde Westen Tasmaniens
Der Westen Tasmaniens ist rau, wild und nass. Wir haben in Rosebery Mittagspause gemacht, der Ort mit dem höchsten Niederschlag Tasmaniens. Rosebery hat uns das auch wortwörtlich bewiesen - wir mussten bei strömendem Regen unser Essen kochen. Doch die durch diese Witterungsbedingungen entstandene Natur ist einmalig. Der Highway führte uns durch dichte Regenwälder mit haushohen Farnen, es ging bergauf und bergab. Die Bergstraße nach Queenstown ist auch nichts für schwache nerven.
Bay of Fires
Bay of Fires is a coastal section in the north east of Tasmania. What can be seen here?
Beautiful white sand beaches, turquoise blue sea and beautiful bays with crystal clear water.
The huge granite rocks lying on the sand and in the water are smoothed by the surf and the rusty coating gives them the name Bay of Fires. The rusty Color is produced by lichen which is a composite organism that arises from algae.
It is still said that this place is just a dream to camp.
Bay of Fires
Bay of Fires nennt sich ein Küstenabschnitt im Nord-Osten Tasmaniens. Was gibt es hier zu sehen? Wunderschöne weiße Sandstrände, türkisblaues Meer und schöne Buchten mit glasklarem Wasser.
Die riesigen Granitfelsen die am Strand und im Wasser liegen wurden duch die Brandung glatt geschliffen und der rostrote Belag verleiht ihnen den Namen Bay of Fires. Die rostige Farbe entsteht durch Flechten, welche ein zusammengesetzter Organismus sind die aus Algen entstehen.
Es sei noch gesagt das dieser Ort einfach nur ein Traum zum campen ist.
Boat Harbour Beach
It is actually only a beach, but one of the very special kind. We discovered this beach on the second day of our arrival in Tasmania and did not expect such a beach on Tasmania. Snow white powder sand beach, turquoise blue sea, plenty of space for the campers, barbecues to have lunch/dinner, what else you need for a perfect beach day? At the end of our Tasmania trip we went there for a second time because it is so nice there.

Boat Harbour Beach
Es ist eigentlich nur ein Strand, aber einer der ganz besonderen Art. Wir entdeckten diesen Strand am zweiten Tag unserer Ankunft in Tasmanien und haben keinen solchen Strand auf Tasmanien erwartet. Schneeweißer Sandstrand, türkisblaues Meer, viel Platz für die Camper, Grills um Mittagessen / Abendessen zu zubereiten, was sonst braucht es für einen perfekten Strandtag? Am Ende unserer Tasmanien-Reise sind wir erneut hingefahren, weil es einfach so schön ist.

The Freycinet Nationalpark
Is certainly like the Cradle Mountain National Park the figurehead of Tasmania, especially the Wineglass Bay. You should not miss the National Park, good hiking tracks for every level, the Wineglass Bay is great and beautiful free-camping spots. Furthermore there is some wildlife in and around the Park, like some Wallabies in the Parking Area.
Der Freycinet Nationalpark
Ist sicherlich wie der Cradle-Mountain Nationalpark das Aushängeschild Tasmaniens, vor allem die im Nationalpark befindliche Wineglass Bay. Man sollte den Nationalpark nicht verpassen, gute Wanderwege für jedes Fitness-Level, die Wineglass Bay ist schon toll und schöne free-camping Spots.

thanks @deepwaterscrypto. really good question! it´s quite hard to find them, but if you'll see one its definitely on Tasmania. We´ve seen some, but just in a wildlife park. But you'll see a lot of Wombats. Check this post to see some Wombat Pictures

I enjoyed your photos. I have lived in Tasmania for eleven years. It is a beautiful place but I can not wait to leave as I am starting to feel a litle trapped on the island ☺ The photo with the bridge is at Richmond. (Not too farfrom Hobart) It is the oldest bridge in Tasmania. I think I may have posted photos of it recently.

It´s actually not that I miss something, it´s more a Feeling. I just feel better in every way when Im in Australia! ok maybe the weather and the really nice ocean over there.
