Every day provides us with opportunities to celebrate. Today I invite you to celebrate the joy of limericks.

LIMERICKS

It’s National Limerick Day!
In honor of Edward Lear’s birthday.

A Victorian gent,
the Limerick, he did invent.

A limerick has five lines.
Its AABBA rhyming scheme, defines

this terse
and silly verse.

Usually the first line states
the name of a person or place.

Some are obscene,
others are clean.

Often their publication
is accompanied with an illustration.

Later I will write
a limerick for your delight!
