Walking around Brooklyn I came across this statue of henry Ward Beecher and got a few shots.
I really knew nothing about him so I looked it up and here is what I found.
Henry Ward Beecher Born June 24, 1813 and died March 8, 1887 was an American Congregationalist clergyman, social reformer, and speaker, known for his support of the abolition of slavery, his emphasis on God's love, and his 1875 adultery trial.
in 1847 he became the past of the Plymouth Church in Brooklyn which probably explains why the statue is there.
Apparently had a novel oratorical style in which he employed humor, dialect, and slang
He also was a supporter of Darwin's evolution theory saying it was not incompatible with his religious beliefs and also supported social reform causes such as women's suffrage and temperance.
He was rumoured to be an adulterer and slept with the wife of a former associate, there was a trial that resulted in a hung Jury.
