The date is October 26th 2017, there is a “Hacktoberfest” event held at one of the popular Universities in Malaysia.

This particular event is a celebration of the open source softwares that you and me have benefited from, both knowing or not knowing if we had.

“Open source software is not freeware”

To learn about open source software, in my view making a comparison with the proprietary software will be so much easir, “Open source software vs the proprietary software”.

People who join this event also come from the python user group. As python as a programming language is relatively easy to pick up especially for starters. Since it is held at a university, many attended this event were students.

It is a gathering to talk about and get up to the trends of open source software and if you are up for it, go into the development side. The thing is we are living in a world so fast now, even the tools and stuff that you work on requires many man hours and one cannot take all. So we gather to talk and share, at the same time get excited about it, go home and do some homework and you get rewarded with your works. Also you get to network with the community with similar interest.

Host presenters & guest speakers:
The presenter is a programmer named weijian, sharing the opensource relationship and its impact to everyone.

The guest speaker was Ng Swee Meng, who is involved in sinar project. Promoting open source projects and transparency for the local government.

Swee Meng shared about opensource softwares including hardwares such as the raspberry pi with the esp 8266 pan and tilt camera.

The hack time:

Wei Jian had shared his git repository with a game that he created with java, its like a simplified mario jumping game with snails. With the game created via java and without any game making tools like the popular unity, this guy is really hardcore into programming.

After that the casual discussion among the ones who stayed after the event. It’s pretty much interesting to know young students have so much new tech skills, great to keep up to date on the development side of the world.
