Tips to make your Steemit Blog Stand Out

in #teammalaysia7 years ago (edited)
In this article I want to write about the trick that I have found in recent days. I am pretty new on Steemit, but I have noticed a lot of posts lack basic formatting. In my opinion, you need to do anything in your power to make your post stand out. First of all , I consider you know a little bit about markdown and html markup. If You are newbie at coding and you want to make your post design beautiful, just follow my blog. I can promise, is that I can give you the tricks, what you can make beautiful blog posts with them.
Since there are over Thousands and soon to be Millions of users registered on Steemit, you shouldn't have a problem when it comes to finding an audience, but the big question is how you're going to capture the crowd's attention when there is so much competition.

So, We have 2 choices for styling our posts - the 1st is markdown, the 2nd is html markup.

Format text using Markdown

Web designers don't use markdown for styling their websites because markdown is not relevant to coding. it is just used for documention of programming libraries etc. Steemit is very advanced in comparison with many other social media in allowing users to use Markdown, a simple tool to do common formatting such as headers, lists, links and emphasis. Below are the most important formatting tricks to make your text look beautiful.

Paragraphs

This is one of the best points about Markdown.

Unlike html where you need to use formatting tags for paragraphs, simply hitting Enter/Return once or twice in Markdown will create paragraphs (depending on how you prefer to format).

It works exactly the same way as a standard word processor.

That saves a lot of typing compared to html.

Headings

For headings use a hash symbol "#" followed by a gap:

e.g. you type this: "#"teammalaysia

and you get this:

teammalaysia

teammalaysia

teammalaysia

teammalaysia

The more hashes you use the smaller the heading.

You can use up to 6 - NB don't forget to leave a gap between the hashes or it will confuse the editor.

Italics

Italics use underscores or asterisks

e.g. you type: _ underscore _ or * asterisk*

and you get this:

underscore or asterisk

Bold

For bold use double __ underscore__ or ** asterisk**

and you get this:

underscore or asterisk

Both Bold and Italic Combined

Mix them (asterisks and underscores) for text that is both italicised and bold:

e.g. you type: Mix Bold Italic * Mixed *

and you get this:

Mixed

Bold

For bold use double underscores or asterisks

e.g. you type:

__ double underscores__ or ** asterisks**

and you get:

double underscore

double asterisk

Both Bold and Italic Combined

Mix them (asterisks and underscores) for text that is both italicised and bold:

e.g. you type:

** Mix Bold Italic**

and get:

Mixed

Numbered Lists:

You type numbered points like this, the number followed by a full stop/period then space : 1.Point 1

Number Lists and you get this:

  1. Point 1
  2. Point 2
  3. Point 3

Bulleted Lists

For bulleted lists use asterisks with a space:

You type: *Point 1

and you get:

  • Point 1
  • Point 2
  • Point 3

Adding Alt Text

To add alt text to your image, all you need to do is place the text in-between the square brackets,

[exampleTEXT]

Link

Use the format [TEXTgoesHere inside brackets]( httpLinkGoesHere inside parentheses)

[exampleTEXT](httpLink. com)

Hyperlinking Images

To hyperlink your image, wrap the image markdown in the markdown for creating a link.

[exampleTEXT](httpLink. com)(image)

Adding Alt Text

To add alt text to your image, all you need to do is place the text in-between the square brackets,

e.g; text.

Hyperlinking Images

To hyperlink your image, wrap the image markdown in the markdown for creating a link.

E.g. [Image Alt Text](path/to/linked/page

Section Dividing Lines

Three or more asterisks, hyphens, or underscores make a dividing line to separate sections:

e.g. you type:

-(3x) or
*(3x) or
_(3x) or

and you get 3 identical dividing lines:

Quotes

Quotes use the "greater than" mathematical symbol i.e. ">"
e.g. you type:

Sabah Steemians

and you get:

Sabah Steemians

Youtube Videos

Basically just treat the youtube video like an image link so the format would be:

![Youtube Link Title](Youtube Video Link)

At this moment, there is so much opportunity so you should definitely siege this moment! But as time passes, there will be a lot of creative individuals competing out there. So you have got to learn the basic's before you excel at something, with a little bit of practice! Markdown Editing will be easy for you!
