Christmas Elves - 1

Eldric the elf walked among the toy lines supervising the elves, checking to see if they had enough materials and supplies at each work station so that the toys could be made properly and in an expeditious manner. Elves were always hungry when they worked so he also checked to see if the cookie plates and the cocoa pots were low.

Checking the cocoa pots was not that tough; to make the job easier, the elves would hold up the pot when an elf drained it. If the cocoa refill team did not see that an empty cocoa pot had been held up, Eldric reminded them. Because the refill team was staffed by gnomes, who are very diligent, they had made an error only once and that was on their very first day on the job, two thousand and sixteen years ago.

Making toys was a lot of work and elves became very thirsty for cocoa which provided both energy and liquid for elf health. Elves are lot different than people, for one thing they are magical fairy creatures and their diet of cookies and cocoa might not be good for you but for them it is the perfect food. Besides, elf cookies are different than human cookies.

Sometimes, elf cookies contain vegetables as well as chocolate chips and nuts so it is not uncommon for an elf to enjoy a broccoli or spinach cookie every so often. Cauliflower and parsnip cookies are also very popular. Last but not least, elves love fruitcake and that is how they get all the vitamin c they need. But a truly delicious, honey-sweetened fruitcake is messy so elves can only eat those on breaks.

Yes, the hardest part of Eldric’s job was keeping the supplies for the making of all the toys coming. This was directing elf wizards to produce all the necessary raw materials, wood, metal, plastic, paints, glue, nails, screws, fabrics, and so on.

The reason the job was difficult was because elves always sing while they work. Since there were hundreds of elves happily singing while they made the toys, Eldric used a complex system of hand signals, arm wavings, kicks, twists, bends, and even eye movements. He could even wiggle his ears, twitch his nose just so, and wobble his chin. He was the only one who could keep this up all day and it was how he got and kept the job. Eldric was in truly great shape, probably the best shape of any elf at the entire north pole.

So, while the Eldric watched, the elves worked, today they decided to sing this song:

Ho Ho Ho!
We are elves
To work we go

While we make toys
For all the little girls and boys.
