The World of Literature - Forgiveness

in #story6 years ago (edited)

This is just an old story and I saw this several months ago on my FB wall and I really appreciate the message in the story. It simply narrates to a human behavior when they encounter any person that wronged them specifically to those who served them for a long time. In just one mistake, all the history of good things that he had done to his master was forgotten and focused only on one simple mistake. This may be just a story but somehow it reflects the behavior of some perfectionist person who doesn't know how to forgive and forget.

Just recently, this short story appeared again in my wall and in this time, I will not waste time to share it to you guys so that in a way this will teach us some moral lesson. And the story goes like this:

The late king of my community had ten wild dogs. He used them to torture and eat any of his servants who made a mistake. One of the servants gave an opinion which was wrong, and the king didn’t like it at all. So he ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs. The servant said, “I served you for ten years, and you do this to me? Please give me ten days before throwing me to those dogs!” The king agreed.

In those ten days, the servant went to the guard who looks after the dogs and told him he would like to serve the dogs for the next ten days. The guard was baffled but agreed, and the servant started feeding the dogs, cleaning for them, bathing them, and providing all sorts of comfort for them.

When the ten days were over, the king ordered that the servant be thrown to the dogs for his punishment. When he was thrown in, we were all amazed to see the ravenous dogs only licking the feet of the servant! The king, baffled at what he was seeing, said,
”What has happened to my dogs?”
The servant replied, "I served the dogs for only ten days, and they didn’t forget my service. Yet I served you for a whole ten years and you forgot all, at my first mistake!"
The king realised his mistake and ordered the servant to be set free.

Sometimes, we are blinded by the one mistake that was committed to us and forgetting all the good things that our fellow did. Just remember, everybody commits mistake and we are not exempted from that rule. The truth is, God sometimes allowed others to commit mistakes to us for us to learn how to forgive; and even us have our own infirmities and shortcomings that need to be forgiven by our Creator and we can earn His mercy if we learn how to forgive others. We just remember that this is the best opportunity for us to be forgiven by Him if we forgive someone who committed mistakes to us.
We should not let hatred control us instead we do otherwise.

Its really true and practical, just like the king the todays masters focus on a single mistake instead of focusing on their service of long time. This shouldn't be done, if the mistake can be forgiven it should be, the master shouldn't be harsh on the servant for a single mistake.

Great and impressive story A great lesson from this story thanks for sharing
I appereciate you for these great words

Exactly, forgive and forget ...
We all make mistakes, it doesn't have to be the end. Learn to give 2nd chances

Wow.. your article is amazing, very interesting to read, can be lesson for us all. When our friend make a small mistake to us, remember the kindnesses he ever did while us.so, we will not break friendship just because of a small mistake which he did. Thanks for the good post, I like it..

That king was not only selfish but also a ungrateful person. He forgot the services of his servants who served him with dedication and loyalty. Also, I think one thing is very interesting-as the king had the habit to throw anyone before deadly dogs whom he didn't like, why other servants could not unite against him and punish him for his misdeeds? Perhaps, this is our own mentality. We are always obedient to our those masters who never care for us. We can see people starving to death, being tortured by authorities and feel ourselves safe. What an irony that we are all part of a system and being a part of the system we never hesitate to harm our own brethren forgetting that some day we may be the victim of our own mistake.

Very nice story. Very nice philosophy.we cannot break relation to relax our ego. We should understand "Too err is human "
So all we need is to show patience, and adopt the habbits of forgiveness.
