DEK Photography: St. Cyril and St. Methodius Church
This is actually a cathedral, but the locals call it a church. It's in the city's center, was designed by an Italian and built around a hundred years ago. I've taken this photo at dusk.
Recently, the local corrupt government, whose sole purpose is to put in private pockets all Eurofund resources, decided to build an underground parking for the ever increasing number of vehicles (instead of limiting the import of 15-year-old vehicles, increasing pollution), and as a result of digging a huge hole next to the church, managed to crack it right in the middle.
After severely damaging this unique building, and finally building the underground parking, now its 300 empty spaces are almost always available. Why? Because the owners of the 15-year-old vehicles can't afford to pay a full working day's parking fee, as it's roughly the size of their daily income.
Now, you may think the government officials are stupid thieves, but they are not. Half of the parking space will soon be turned into an underground mall for the relatives of the government employees. The underground parking itself is close to another lot, which will also become a huge mall in the very center of the city, so the influx of (usually Russian and British) shoppers will eventually fill up the remaining parking spaces.
I'm on a quest to obtain the incredible Fujifilm 56mm f/1.2 and the excellent Fujifilm X-T2 camera. This is a duo made in heaven, especially for street photographers, such as myself.

That's very sad to hear that happened to such a historic beautiful cathedral. x
Indeed! Hopefully the repairs are good enough.
Powerful silhouette!
Although the church itself is not huge. I will try to take and post some day shots, although the only wide angle I have is the kit lens :D
You can always take close up photos of the architectural details of the building, I'll bet there's plenty of interesting bits.
That's actually a cool idea - a series of photos and an overview of a building :)
And who will fix the church?
Since it's a populist government, they had to fix it. But how do you fix a building split in two? By paying the local media to repeatedly post about the high tech space age glue compound used to fill the crack (I'm not joking).
They've also installed a huge square metal bracket, keeping the building from falling apart, basically defeating the purpose of keeping this architectural masterpiece intact.
I should make a point to post some day shots!
Yes, I'd love to see some day shots of this building!
