# 76 - The State Quarters - Part 2
Starting in 1999 the US Mint issued a 10 years program that honored each of the nation’s states in the order that they ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union.
They chose the $.25 coin to be the vessel of the homage. Each year five different coins representing five different states were minted.
The program lasted 10 years, ending in 2008 and it was an enormous success with the public. Many and many people awakened to coin collecting, searching their pockets looking to complete a collection of all the 50 states.
All the coins obverses show the same profile of George Washington and the reverses were usually chosen in popular contests in each state.
All the above was written on my first article about the State Quartes, almost three months ago.
I decided to publish it again due to the fact that I am going to present the other quarters now, in a series of articles.
All the coins are NGC PF70 Ultra Cameo with 90% silver purity and weight of 6.3g.
The first is the 2000 "Massachusetts". Featuring the Colonial Minuteman, this design invokes important images from the Revolutionary War period.
The second is 2000 "Maryland". It features the Maryland Statehouse. This was the first State Quarter design to feature a prominent or famous building.
The last is 2000 "South Carolina". It features a collection of symbols important to the state. The state bird, state flower, state tree, and an outline of the state are all included.

I love the state quarters, even in their regular old circulatesd form. I always wants to get the territory quarters too but could never find most of them.
I started collecting them in circulated condition, but some were very difficult to find, so I started buying them slabbed in PF70 condition. Now I have the whole series.
When these came out I started collecting them, then lost interest. You have some beautiful coins and makes me want to collect them again. Thanks for sharing.

I started my circulated collection with an album just like yours.
Massachusetts has such a rich history. I'm utterly disappointed in recent developments. The state where LIBERTY was born when establishing independence from England is now a socialist nanny state where you'll be put in prison for carrying a weapon to defend your family.... Hmpf.
