Here goes my second attempt at Steem Monsters Common Card Fantasy Story Contest! I had more time to prep for this one so I'm sure the result will be much better!

Sneaky and light on her feet, a perfect assassin, and an even better thief. Serves no one but her own interests...

The Elven Cutthroat

Vilana grew up in Moonshade's orphanage house. Moonshade was a majestic and huge city, it was inhabited by more than seventy thousand elves.

Growing up she was always either causing trouble or in trouble which was very frowned upon by the Elves. They tend to be very calm and royal creatures, sense of humor or pranks were not usual at all. Not even among the little ones. Since Vilana was somewhat different from the other kids she didn't really have any friends.

Even though her attitudes were rebellious her school results were fantastic! She graduated at the age of fourteen. After graduation Elves have to pick a path for their future. They can choose to be either magicians or physical Fighter and within one of these paths, they have to elect a specific kind of magic or weapon to be proficient with.

Two days after her graduation she received a letter with the Elven Royal Emblem. It was an invitation to join the king's guard trainees program. She was quite surprised to get recruited, sure she was an outstanding student but her unaligned behaviors should have kept them from choosing her.

She decided to accept the offer, Vilana left the elven orphanage and traveled to the capital of Eldrelar to start her new career. The training was very intense and quite unusual, she was the only student there. The things that her teacher taught her were strange, besides highly skilled sword and dagger wielding she was trained in the art of sneaking, lockpicking and poison making.

After almost two years of training, she decided that it was enough. All she did all day was training and more training until the point of exhaustion. They were clearly training her to become an assassin or spy for the king. But she had other plans, she didn't owe these people anything or so she thought. Vilana decided to go rough. Military service to the king was mandatory so she fleed the Elven lands and made a fresh start in the far away human city of Thunderstone.

Once in the city, Vilana had no way of making ends meet so she decided to do what she does best, stealing. Eventually, she joined a thieves guild that operated in the region. Thieves often came together to score big hits together, the guild was the perfect way to find big scores and a competent team to pull them off. The Guild also received a lot of assassination requests, the pay grade for an assassination was usually very high so Vilana ended up assassinating someone every time the guild received a hit on someone.

Almost an entire year had gone by and Vilana was already rich but she liked the thieve life. It was accelerating, so she kept on going. One night while Vilana was deep asleep in her room and suddenly her bedroom door opens up! A knife goes flying and stabs directly into one of the intruders lower chest, Vilana jumps from the bed realizing that someone activated her trap door.

She saw her teacher standing next to the door and another elf lying on the floor because of her trap. She knew that someday they would find her, no chance they would just let her go on with her life after becoming a rough agent.
Her teacher locked eyes with her and quickly threw a knife at her, She rolled out of the way of the projectile and grabbed her swords. He drew his sword and got ready for combat.

• I was hoping to kill you in your sleep but I see I'll have to do this the hard way.
• I have learned a lot since I fled.

It was going to be a tricky battle, both of them poisoned their blades so a single cut could mean defeat. After a few minutes studying each other Elvana decided to swing the first blow, which was easily parried by her former teacher. After exchanging some blows Elvana finally managed to make a cut in teachers leg. He knew that soon his muscles were going to start paralyzing.

In a desperate attempt the teacher launched at her running like a madman, either he killed her now or he was done for! Elvana knew it was just a matter of time before the battle was won, so she fending and dodging the desperate attempts until she found an opening and slashed the elf's throat with a swift blow! She took a look at the other elf that was lying on the floor, the poison from the knife left in paralyzed by the doorstep. She had to kill him, he was the only person left in the world that could identify her. Elvana snapped his neck killing him promptly and painlessly.

She was now free, her teacher was the only one who could identify her. Finally free of the feeling of being constantly looking over her shoulder waiting for your murderer to come! She grabbed her stuff and skipped town that same night, having two dead elves in her room at the inn was sure to raise suspicions.

Elvana moved from city to city living her thief live, serving none but herself!
