Helping Steemmonsters Beginners #2 - What Do We Call Strategy Here? On Fighting Against The Odds.

Greetings, people and monsters alike!

I must say I am glad there was interest in what I started...

Sharing experience and advice as a new monster but otherwise experienced Trading Card Games player

A perspective which may be interesting to everybody since... we know everybody has to begin at some point but now that I began with some background behind me, I may be able to suggest interesting ideas. I hope that. Only you will know if that's indeed so.

I have to say I am very glad of the change I witnessed at the end of my first season

Which was about how we got to choosing out team with time limit and some information about the enemy. And with varying battle conditions each time. Before you just prepared a team under constant daily conditions and you launched it into the unknown. Less skill, more luck. Oh, yeah, now Mana varies too, which means varying team size each battle.

Also, the designers achieved what they intended - made more of the monsters find their purpose in life.

Now that the conditions are more diverse, the strategies change and monsters that were mostly neglected before can be useful now.

Well, I will make another article with a discussion about...

Good Monster, Bad Monster - coming soon...

Now I want to share a case in which strategy helped me defeat an enemy with higher level monsters.

Which basically means more health, or attack, or armor, or speed... and maybe a bonus ability. Well, in this case slightly and maybe not on average. You can see the enemy tank is one level higher than mine. The rest were three 5th level commons and one 1st level epic. Mind you, we don't know what the enemy choice will be before battle. I just knew he had access to higher levels.

Here goes nothing!

Sorry about the incomplete picture. It shows my side of the screen only and the enemy tank on purpose.

Now, it would be inappropriate to ask new players to guess my strategy. Someday I make a challenge of it but now I am going to just reveal it.

And actually I believe @bozz was referring to the same but with magic dudes and dudettes from Water Tribe. Sorry, Shard.

I selected all of my back line so that they are able to deal damage - reach, ranged or magic attack... but none of them could bypass the tank - no sneak, no snipe abilities among them.

So everybody was intentionally shooting at the enemy tank position.

Focusing them down one by one. All the fire power - at the same target.

I lost only one monster - the main tank finally fell.

This will only work in some cases. And mostly on higher levels. Beginners would sometimes benefit from sniping other beginners' damage dealers in the back line if they are still squishy, meaning with little health and no evasion capabilities. Thus reducing the enemy firepower. But now I saw I may not be able to hold if my firepower was spread all over the place. Snipers have different targets (second, third position) than sneakers (last position) for instance.

Another advantage of this knowledge could be exploiting enemy squishy sneakers' attitude by positioning somebody who can 'Retaliate' or bite with 'Thorns'ability those who hit them thus killing the sneak attackers first or simultaneously. A risky but more common strategy.

There's still skill and there's still luck. No unbreakable strategies at higher levels, I hope. So far the game proves to be pretty good at providing solutions.

Yeah, after some time you will learn how to take advantage of bots using the same comp over and over. Humans still adapt faster ;) Some hope for out kind.

A magic mushroom went to @blueeyes8960 these days and I would be glad to know if it arrived safe. But no pressure, take your time. I know you're not into the game yet ;)

That is some great advice! Thanks for sharing! Thanks for the shout out too. :)

Thank you, too, for the support.

Thanks for the tips, and for the gift. It arrived!

Hooray! First time I try this transaction.

Well it worked great! I didn't upvote your post because I'm at zero right now, but I resteem it. I'm sure it will be useful to all us beginners! Thanks again.

Yes, focussing fire is a pretty decent way of bashing through the tank. Although, it is really heavily dependant on getting through and getting to the weaker parts of the team! IT's a risk!

Agreed, it is. When behind, Dark Shrine ;)

Well, I'm sure those who know what steemmonsters is/are will understand what you just wrote but I had absolutely no idea what you just talked about haha!

I did play Magic the Gathering a long time ago, is it similar or completely different?

The only thing that they have in common is card characteristics and ... the skill that transfers best is evaluating mana cost/efficiency. I will be writing about that topic next.

Interesting, if I had the time for it, I'd get involved, sounds like it could be fun but right now, there are just a few too many plates to spin - will keep an eye out for your next blog :)

It looks like you've got a great thing going on here. Keep it up!

Thank you! Really glad about that.

I don’t know how to play this game)) I like card in real time with my friends)))

Thanks for stopping by, anyway!

Of course, playing the game is just an option. I am ready to help people who decide to try and want to know how. Basically, when one gets on the site, there is enough info there.

What I do is give my opinion and some advice to those who are up to it. It requires the starter pack to begin with, which is 10$ and that is some investment. Time for daily quests is more time investment. It's good for those who would play such a game anyway. But if one is not into it...

I REALLY need to find a time to sit down and join up with this game before I lose my gaming "street cred" - LOL! Thanks for all the strategy information, @manoldonchev - I'm bookmarking this for future reference! Happy Monstering!

Thanks and also, welcome ;) I will be writing more soon, probably tomorrow.

Good luck with whatever you're on currently ;)

More and more I’m reading about the monsters I hear people mentioning that they played Magic @slobberchops, @manoldonchev, @nickyhavey when we ever meet we need to bring our decks🤓

@manoldonchev what a great post about playing the game. Think I make the same mistake some clicking and multitasking while doing other things🤣

Sure ;) Have to put up a deck on Friday. I keep almost all my cards in the club.

You're still active playing Magic?

Occasionally. Not as before but at least once a month FNM. A couple of years ago I was very close to making it to Worlds for the Bulgarian team. Lost 1:2 at the Semifinals and the guy who won the finals I think I was favorite against. I was playing LSV's Black-Green deck that year.
