On Steemmonsters - Personal Experience Report Ending on 'Now's the Time'

How I went from 'Nope' to 'Very well done'

I had two major problems with the game at first when I saw people recommending it. I now realize both of those came from my ego of a serious Magic: The Gathering player.

The two 'Against-s' that became 'For-s':

  1. The art. Well, look at MTG art and then tell me how do I compromise with the difference. But then I got to know about RC and stuff... How heavy would a game with that detailed art be? I don't know. I guess it should be simple so that the game can run smoothly and take as few resources as possible. Am I right? I don't know since I am not familiar with details here but that is how I explain it to myself.

And in my experience a good game with basic art is better than a lot of art for nothing. On the collector's side... well, I do keep MTG cards because of their art alone and that is not going to happen here. Still, one can find some cuteness here and there and stick to it. Beauty is in the eyes of the viewer.

  1. The dynamics. I was at first angry about too little interaction and not enough opportunity to show skill. But, first, the designers took some steps to diversify it. When I joined you made a team before pairings and with less factors to take in mind. Second, yes, that was a team building game, not a turn-based decision making game.

And the huge plus - the speed of resolution and how many games you may play in any amount of time you have to spare. It does not require all of your attention and time and that is great.

Actually everything was perfectly suited for the platform we are on.

Alright, originality of concept is still low but a lot of MTG clones fare much worse and Steemmonsters has...

Other very good qualities

Leveling system that gives you so much space to grow! Makes simplest of cards usable later on... I've found no other card game allowing you to use so many of the cards in various situations. Usually a lot of them are dead junk for the bucket.

Diversity found even in the small number of cards issued.

Short seasons - also a plus on the time aspect. Well calculated!

The huge contribution to the Steem blockchain

I don't need to explain, do I? Alright, just in short:

It is a flagship drawing attention and new users here. It is a demonstration of good listening to and caring for the crowd practice.

I was just stunned when I saw with my yet newbie eyes what @aggroed and @steemmonsters (Sorry if I miss out anybody involved, I am new here still.. in a way, meaning I have no time to be everywhere and read all there is to read and to know.)

Just look at that discussion.

Why I say the time is now?

Well, if you have joined previously, it would be even better for you but if you haven't yet and you consider doing it...

You have until tomorrow, 18 January 2019 to take advantage of the power up offer. A starter pack costs $10 and you receive 10% back as a power up in Vested Steem. A $1 worth of it now. Long term it may be more than the $10 you gave in the first place.

And Steem is going up today.

And if you would play a few games a day anyway, this one may give you more for less time spent. Slowly at first, of course.

But once you have an account... well sometimes luck will be on your side. The rewards are now less than before and occasions as the one I posted as an image above are very rare. Sometimes I have 10 commons out of 10 cards. Still, sometimes a legendary will appear and it will cost more. Sometimes really a lot.

When the new season started two days ago there came a new legendary card. I drew one from last season's rewards. And it costed about $3.50... but having some experience in card evaluation I knew it was not just another legendary card. A great one. I instantly bought another copy of it selling for just $3 which is more than what you usually pay for most of the legendaries. And it was a lot of Steem that cost me.

But then a day later it was selling for $9. Since mine was tried in battle and it couldn't be used right away by the buyer I sold it for $8 and that was paid in SBD and I got 20 Steem out of it with some SBD to spare. And I thought I had not been brave enough since I could have bought more copies at about $3.50. It still sells for $6.48 as I write this.

I tried talking about too much things in short and it doesn't work perfectly. I can discuss a lot more with you later.

If you want to join now and use my link there be monsters. I mean rare card gifts I will send...

which may be cheap now but who knows... that Imp on bottom left and bottom right of my image is a pretty good addition still. As well as the Mushroom

Well... It has been since I am around. I delayed a bit but I joined eventually.

I've looked at steemmonster posts alot and thought about joining. But I have a lot going on right now to try to get into a new thing. Would there be any advantage to joining under your link today and just holding on to the account until I'm ready to get into it?

The Advantage today was that they give back 10% as vested Steem until January the 18th. But it would be good to check on their discord server just in case. Although the banner still stands.

otherwise I would support with some cards no matter when.

I signed up under you and I have my account! Now if I can find the time to figure it out!

Well, when you do, you can tell me on Discord or around here what help you would like. But take your time. And don't let it take your time. I have a different routine than most people and I have the habit of pausing for some game while still doing work on my PC but it can be... dangerous. I mean really time consuming. Still, for people who are into it, this one has its cool sides.
