Win a free copy of Cost Benefit Jr.™ [official contest]

in #steemiteducation6 years ago

The contest launch is finally here! But before we get to the rules, I'd like to highlight a few reasons CBJr. should be on your homeschool or book shelf at home, whether you have kids or not!

Cost Benefit Jr.™: Stories in Microeconomics is a literature-based curriculum in microeconomics for kids. Students as young as eight can learn complex concepts like supply & demand, opportunity cost, and diminishing marginal utility when they’re presented in simple stories.

Each weekly story and quiz will take the average 4th grade student 20 to 30 minutes to read and complete. The curriculum is meant to cover a normal school year, and is ideal for homeschoolers or as a quick & easy supplement to classroom learning.

The book covers the price system, supply & demand, opportunity costs, incentives, limited resources, market negotiation, competition, unseen costs and benefits, budgeting, cost-benefit analysis, and the roles of both savings and consumption in the flow of an economy.

It covers the following national curriculum standards published by the National Council on Economic Education:

Standard 1: Scarcity
Standard 2: Marginal Cost/Benefit
Standard 4: Role of Incentives
Standard 5: Gain from Trade
Standard 7: Markets – Price and Quantity Determination
Standard 8: Role of Price in Market System
Standard 9: Role of Competition
Standard 14: Profit and the Entrepreneur

In addition to economic principles, CBJr reinforces basic math and reading comprehension skills, as well as the interpretation of basic graphs. It’s full of bright photographs and graphics, printed in full color. A glossary of terms is included.

Also, just FYI, the book is for sale on Peerhub and I do accept STEEM as payment!

So, without further ado... I'm giving away five copies of CBJr.! To enter, please tell me in a comment below about either your favorite section/lesson of the book or which economic concept you hope to teach your child and why. Judging will be rather subjective. I'll be choosing the five best comments with respect to their content and their level of engagement. (Hint: probably best to write more than four words)

The deadline for entering is December 23, 2017, with winners to be announced December 26, 2017. Once I announce the winners, they will need to provide a mailing address so I can send the book out – that can be shared via direct message to @geke in Discord or via SteemitChat.

If you're not sure which parts of the book would most appeal to you or which economic concepts it teaches, feel free to look over the section summaries posted on my Steemit blog! Good luck everyone!

I need at least two copies so I am just going to buy one from Peerhub today and try to win one here. This is not my entry comment - I just thought some other folks might want to purchase as well so I'm dropping the link to Cost Benefit Jr right here:

Paying with STEEM! Thanks @geke!

Thanks Jon! I think my product page may say I'm sold out... headed over there to fix that. (I'm not sold out)

Hi - I got here due to yr @ocd reco on my last post, thankyou kindly! I just wanted to say this looks like a great project. I hope it does well, it deserves to.

It's also nice to see a project with a string of real world quality posts rather than just reflexive posts about Steemit and crypto!

I'll give yr summaries a read and make a compeition post possibly at the last min time is not on my side atm!).

And yr giving me all sorts of ideas of how I might make a living out of education online once I quit my regular teaching job. I'm already earning a basic income through my wordpress blog but reallynwantnto move away from reliance on ad revenue in the medium term (and maintain my income).

You might have just given me a model for doing that.

Thnx again,

Karl.

Wow - that's exciting! Also, make sure you use the #steemiteducation tag on your posts - that will help with exposure, too, and they are good people. Looking forward to your entry!

This is super cool @Geke and I'd love to win a copy for my family. I've got my wife interested now too; she's an accountant so just mentioning your book piqued her attention.

My son is 7.5 years old and we're teaching him a little about money while demonstrating good practices. His first real lesson has come after kayaking and deciding he really wanted one of his own. He was a natural with the paddles. He'd never became so interested in saving a large sum of money until now. This was at the beginning of summer. Now, he's getting close to his goal, so this would be a perfect time to introduce your book.

That's why I'm going to chose Section 1 - Keira's Allowance as the one I'm most looking forward to. Ready to make his first big purchase with funds he's patiently been saving could be a fantastic chance to learn opportunity cost and sunk cost before he pulls the trigger. I also choose Section 1 because that would be the beginning of these lessons with our son.

I'll also be looking forward to Section 6 and showing him the hidden costs of gaining those funds and Section 3 to try and communicate the potential value of that money if he chose to do other things with it. That, in turn, could be a chance to officially introduce crypto currency to him; he's heard me talking about it and knows I have some, but that's about it right now. I've been thinking about when/how to go about teaching him more, and this could certainly help lay the concepts out in an easier to undersrand manner than dad just trying to explain it. Hah.

Congrats on the publication of your book and thanks for the chance to win a copy.

Very cool, @geke! :D

We need a world filled with savvy entrepreneurs... ;)

😄😇😄

@creatr

wouldn't that be great?

Really presented in simple stories..thanks

thanks Tonny!

Good luck with the contest. My children are grown up now (although probably still need training in economics).

I remember you mentioned this book in my post about businesses that accept steem. Let me know when you are ready and I will add you to that list :

I think I'd like to move from Peerhub to something else like SteemBay... when I get moved I'll let you know! Thanks!
