Day 1: Getting Started With Steemit (30 Days Of Steemit Success)

in #steemit7 years ago

I have been delegated 1,000 SP to help new Steemonians find Steemit Success. Over the month of September I will be posting daily about different strategies, tips and tricks to help you become the best Steemoninan you can be. Let's start at the beginning.

Day 1: Getting Started With Steemit

Signing up

When people first hear about Steemit they race to sign up, but many will be disappointed just like I was that it isn't immediate. There is a process that takes anywhere from a day or two up to a couple of weeks to get approved and to start posting. It is frustrating, but it is also good for the community to grow at a steady pace.

One thing you can do during this time is search through Steemit and see what kind of blogs other people are posting and start figuring out what you want to right. Just keep checking your email daily until you get approved. If you are like me, I was checking my email 10 times a day waiting for my reply.

Starting Your Account

When the glorious day arrives and your approval email is sent to you, it is time to start your account. One of the most important things you can do when you first start is to very carefully save your password. You don't want to email to yourself incase your email gets hacked, but you want to save it in a safe place.

If you are just starting out in the world of crypto, then you are also going to have to take the responsibility to keep track of your password to Steemit, and your private keys to your coins. One thing that helps me, is I have a notebook that I keep in my safe that has all my passwords written or printed and taped inside. I also keep it in a plastic bag, just in case.  I cannot stress enough, how important it is to keep your password to Steemit safe.

Exploring Steemit

When you first arrive, you will find tons of different people, topics and blogs to explore. Go exploring. When you first arrive your vote is worth very little, so don't be afraid to vote a lot. Get out there and comment on posts you like and read blogs from some of the best on Steemit. Get to know some of the people and don't be afraid to jump into conversations.

Don't be afraid to follow a lot of people when you first get here too. This isn't like Twitter where if you follow people they are likely to follow you back, so don't just go out there and follow everyone. Follow the people that wrote blogs you found interesting or anyone that replies to your posts. One of the best things to do is follow the active people that have a ranking of 60 or more to see what they have done to become successful.

Writing Your First Blog

Once you explore a little, it is time to introduce yourself. Write your first blog about why you joined Steemit and tell this awesome community about you and what you hope to get out of this amazing site. Post a picture of yourself and introduce yourself to the Steemit community. Don't forget to use the tag for new Steemonians. (introduceyourself)

When you post your first blog, don't expect to make hundreds of dollars. Be excited if you make a buck. Steemit is a phenomenal that actually pays you to post and comment, but how much you earn is up to you. It takes some time to gain some traction and you will have to put in some work before you start making more. Hedge your expectations and be part of Steemit for the community and the freedom to post what you want, and the money will come.

Few Things To Remember

Steemit is a great place that rewards people who bring value to the platform. If you are here to troll, you won't find this a very inviting place. If you are cool and try to help and encourage others, you will find Steemit to be a great home for you.

One thing people forget is to site their images on Steemit. Don't forget. If you borrow an image, make sure you give the site credit where you found it.

Today's Question:

What are some tips or tricks you learned on your first day that might help other new Steemonians?

The best comments will be 100% upvoted and added to the eBook for 30 Days of Steemit Success.

Thank you for reading Day 1: Getting Started With Steemit.  This blog is part of a project that @dragosroua and @alexvan are supporting. I am deeply appreciative of their support for my project. The 30 Days of Steemit Success will be a series of blogs posted daily on Steemit to help new Steemonians. All of the blogs will be put together to create an eBook that will be available for download in October for all Steemonians for free.

To my followers, you make my Steemit world go 'round.

I made a post yesterday about turning on Steemit faucets to get some money coming in right away. I found it discouraging in the beginning and these little boosts really help me. Since I wrote the post, I got two more!

I will most definitely be watching for more of these posts. Thank you for doing them. Upvoted and resteemed and will tweet out for a few days :)

I just read your facet post and it was very interesting. I've never heard of it before. I appreciate the feedback and the support. This is a great way to help Steemonians. Thank you.

You're welcome - my next one coming in that genre is "giveaways." I have had a couple of people already follow some of the faucets so I feel like they might get stronger. I want steemit to succeed :)

Spend a bit of time getting to know the layout of Steemit... which buttons lead you where and do what! Find out how to zero in different areas, for example niches that you love or new posts.

Also, get to know the difference between SBD, Steem Power and Steem, and how these 3 things work together on Steemit.

Finally, if you have any questions about Steemit, just Google it... one Steemian or more has likely written a post answering it!

Investment in platform gives you a better start

Thanks for doing this! This is something like day 31 on steemit for me... lol! I think my best tip is to enter the contests. It got a little steem coming in and got me "looking for something" rather than just cruising around lost.

You are doing great on Steemit. I just checked and you joined last month and moving up well. Nice work, you got a new follower. I agree 100% on the contests and will be adding that to a future post. Is there a contest that you did that you think I should mention?

@vitkolesnik did a Catena game where I won a T-shirt, that seemed pretty special to me lol! Thanks for the encouragement!

One of the first things I found on steemit that I felt was very useful to me was The Complete Steemit Etiquette Guide (Revision 2.0) this was done by @thecryptfiend about 11 months ago.

I found this guide to be very handy. It is basic, but sometimes we human beings need to be reminded to mind of our manners, lest we become part of the problem and make our environment as bad as some other places on the net.

Manners is a big part of Steemit for sure. Just being nice, lol. Great tip and I'll check out the guide. I've never read it and I am interested. Thank you for sharing.

I've learned that you should just be yourself on steemit. People appreciate honesty here so you should write about what you actually care about. Also don't be selfish. Dont be afraid to comment or reply to others that have left you nice comments.

Great tips. I will be including these in a future blog for sure. You are 100% right. Honest is the best policy... especailly on Steemit.

Bravo, hopefully all the newbies will read your wisdom!

Hey Kubby! How are you. I hope you are doing well. I appreciate the feedback. I need to get to your page and catch up a bit.

I am doing great my friend, have you considered have a radio show? We have a radio channel on the PAl network. What are you thoughts?

I started following you and a few others because of your postings and have gone slowly and have enjoyed this new experience, because of you I am posting... Sharing for others!

Dude you rock. I really appreciate all the support. I'll get over to your page and check out what you are writing. Nice work.

-Start figuring out what you want to write
-steemit is a phenomenal ** that actually pays you...
Great advice about using rep score to find authors. As someone over 60, I heartily endorse ;)

Matt thank you for the great reply. I appreciate your support. Following and engaging with the top people around works both ways. Vets get the respect they deserve and new people get to learn from the ones that have been successful. Thank you!

Sorry if I wasn't clear.
My first two points were suggested corrections to your post :)
