POSSIBLE BUG: Over 90% of People I am Following Have Vanished Since the Fork - Down from 753 to 61

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

FIRSTLY DO NOT PANIC - MAKE SURE TO READ THE ADDITIONS AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POST

The PROBLEM: 90%+ of People I was following are no longer being shown

Now I just refreshed my page and saw this:

I was following 753 people a few hours ago and I cam back now and it is 61! I have also noticed this post by @ocrdu who is noticing the same kind of issue.

https://steemit.com/steemit/@ocrdu/following-number-not-reported-correctly#@thecryptofiend/re-ocrdu-following-number-not-reported-correctly-20161206t231929718z

I am assuming this is some kind of a bug or error. Does anyone have any theories as to what is going on?

Please share your experiences in the comments.

EDIT

I have submitted a github issue report here if anyone else wants to comment on it too:

https://github.com/steemit/steem/issues/671

NB it has been moved to the Steemit issues page here:

https://github.com/steemit/steemit.com/issues/799

UPDATE This appears to be a display issue.

  • Logging out and then back in again seems to bring back the missing people, however, pressing F5 or refreshing makes them disappear again.

  • Further the numbers don't change on Steemdb and Follower numbers remain static.

  • Also other people visiting your page ARE able to see the correct numbers.

  • You can check on Steemdb by typing: https://steemdb.com/@yourusername

  • I have added these details on github.

UPDATE 2 @jacobcards seems to be having a separate issue with tags:

Sort:

FIX: Log out of account and log back in. Your profile will be back to normal.

This only fixed it for a second when I tried that.

It will be off again after the first F5/reload.

Mines working now all is good!

Maybe not it keeps glitching in and out

Yes. I have added that to the github report to in case it helps them.

HERE IS ANOTHER POSSIBLE BUG (NOTICE THIS POST IS ONLY SHOWING UP UNDER THE FIRST TAG YOU USED)
https://steemit.com/steemit/@jacobcards/possible-hardfork-bug-tags-not-working

Could you add it to github - I think add it as a separate issue? I have added your comment to the bottom of this post too with the link to your post.

Yes! It is just a display issue it seems. Check your number on Steemdb it should be normal.

https://steemdb.com/@yourname

in your case it is https://steemdb.com/@papa-pepper and it shows 1095

wow! LOL, I did a post on this too. If something does not say "wrong" like one of the busiest followers and people on here like YOU are now at 5 - nothing will lol

LOL indeed - going from about 1100 to 5 is almost losing 100%!

Irony: I am a baby minnow compared to your work, service and value and numbers on here and even I had more "followeds" than you during this outage/issue lol!

Well done little minnow!

I'll try to keep the big fish from eating you!

I need all the help I can get man lol-- thanks!

When I go to your profile, it says that you are following 754 people, so I guess it is either fixed, or this problem occurs only to some people :).

I think when you first visit the page it shows the right number. When you refresh the page it changes to the lower number and only shows that number when you click through.

works fine even after refreshing the page. Might have something to do with browsers as well. I am on chrome.

Possibly. I am on Safari.

I also experienced a loss of people that I was following. However, I see there is an easy fix so I am going to give that a shot. Hopefully it will correct the situation.

I don't think there is a fix yet unless you are referring to the tags issue.

same thing happened to me but with followers.....went from 184 to 85 and scared tf out of me lmao

OK up till now I have just seen the bug with following numbers. It would help if you could submit a github report.

But I am sure they will fix that quick.

Thank you. The more of us that post this the easier it is for the team to spot I'm hoping.

I had the same in my mind :-) You are welcome :-)

No problem thank you.

This has happened to me also, I was following 157, now I'm down to 58. Steemdb.com still has me at 157.
I just checked and it shows that I'm "not" following you any longer, but your post still showed up in my feed...odd.

Yes looks like a display issue so probably no reason to worry. I have put in a github report.

Perfect! So I'm still following you, that's good. :)

steemdb.com/@thecryptofiend still shows you following 754 people, so I don't think it's in the blockchain, i.e. not related to the hard-fork. I am having a similar issue with my "following" count. Possibly unrelated, but I also notice that I posted an article a little while ago with a category and 4 other tags, but it only shows up in "new", "trending", "active", etc... if I view posts in the category (first tag). It's missing from the lists for alternate tags.

Have you maybe been playing around with muting/unmuting people pertaining to the NSFW posts? I notice that the "mute" button actually produces a "follow" transaction on the blockchain. Possibly a bug related to that activity?

Yes that's right I have added the Steemdb info to github too. It can't relate to muting. I don't think I've used that since July or thereabouts. The only thing I did was unfollow about 200 inactive accounts yesterday but it was before the HF and this issue only appeared today.

It's happening on my blog too. I was following 266 people and it has dropped to 166. Looking at others sites it appears to show their correct number of followers.
When I logged out and back in, it still shows 166 followers, It would be interesting to know if our followers that are not tallying up in the counter, can still see our posts in their feeds.

dropped followers.png

Yes appears to be a visual bug in most cases though. I can see the correct number on your page:

I wonder if the followers that are not showing can see my posts in their feeds. I noticed a drop in the number of average votes I have received from my posts that correlate with the date of the hard fork and the number of missing followers.

It is hard to be sure! There is also another bug where if you use the full 5 tags it only shows your post in the very first tag and vanishes from the rest. The only way to get round it is to use 4 tags or less.
