31 Days/100 Followers What I learned and love about Steemit

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

I am so excited to have been a member of Steemit for 31 days! I love the sense of community and the opportunity to get paid for creative and original content. Although my account isn't worth much, it's the first time I have ever been paid for my writing, so it's pretty exciting to have anything at all! I have learned so much about steemit, and have met so many wonderful people on the MSP/PAL discord channel. If you haven't had a chance to check it out, you should. They are a wonderful group of people who are working to make steemit the best it can be- many of them wearing multiple hats, djing on the mspwaves channel, modding the boards, and creating upvote bots to help support minnows. 50% of the liquid SBD from this post will be donated to the Make A Minnow support project

Some things that I learned in my 31 days....
-Many of the posts about "how to use steemit" are a little outdated. Talking to people on discord is way more effective, and many of them are super helpful. Shout-out to @Sammosk for walking me through the process of delegating steempower to the minnow support project!

-Getting involved in the community is the best way to be successful on Steemit. This might mean different things for different people- perhaps they chat on discord and make friends, perhaps they might find people who write about the same things and make connections through commenting on posts. Contests are a fun way to get your name out there and get involved- just be sure to pay attention to the rules!

-Markup is terrible. HTML doesn't always work the way it should. Steemit is in beta. Sometimes you just have to get over it.

Posts that I love

That Time I Spent A Week Swimming with Wild Dolphins and What They Taught Me by @therovingreader.
The Roving Reader writes such fun posts about her travels- they read like stories rather than normal travel writing, and I just adore the photos she takes.

A Love Letter to the Pond by @crimsonclad
Crimson is one of the major mods at PAL/MSP on discord. She's a small miracle in and of herself- friendly, sweet, and metal to the core. I adore her and her photography, and you should check her out!

How I Became Saint Naked Nikki by @stitchybitch
Stichybitch is one of my favorite ladies on Steemit. She writes content that is both hilarious, real, and heartfelt. She's a lot of fun on discord too, and one of the newest mods.

Winter, a new original song by @isaria
This song is so haunting and pretty. Isaria creates amazing original content that I would also recommend checking out.

Dream Abduction- Original Story by @clayboyn
Clayboyn writes beautiful poetry, and the prose in this story is just as gorgeous. I adore dreams in general, and found this post to be fascinating.

PAL Discord Channel Awakened Me by @gingyptian
Gingyptian writes about his experience on steemit, and on discord. I think this is a really interesting post because he discusses something that is a common problem on steemit- plagiarism- and his complicity in that problem. I am so proud of him for admitting his mistake, and working to fix it.

Why I'll Never Return to Laos by @fronttowardenemy
Most people think traveling is all sunshine and rainbows- I appreciate how fronttowardenemy is real and honest about the positive and negative sides of traveling. Sometimes certain countries just aren't as much fun to travel through. He also has a lot of other really great posts about traveling by scooter through other Asian countries that are also really interesting.

The Dream Life by @diabolika
In this post, Diabolika explores what she wants from life, and what she already has. She writes really interesting posts about her travel experiences, where she explores not only other countries but also her thoughts. I love how her posts regularly delve into the philosophical.

Nice for sharing good info and interesting posts.

This should be a positive thing especially here on steemit where lot of good posts go in the abiss without even a read at some point.

On discord i still don't know where to enter but i've search after MSP/PAL discord and think that google result will lead me there. I made a discord account few days ago and really want to be present there too (quick response to problems).

Markdown language i see it more and more fun :-). After you said about it i went in creating a post and found for the first time that can change the editor there, hehee.

But i did a better choice. Downloaded a standalone software in my computer, writing them down there (also with preview) and the paste it here on steemit with final preview and corrections and then post it.
It may take just a bit longer but i have all my articles archived in separate files on computer.
And also, i tried to export it for a blogger article and really worked (with some minor bugs).

I think i will make a full article there with using markdown with steemit, blogger and standalone software.

I also like to share things i hardly find, to others. This is the way i learn too from others that are sharing, so is the best way to give back.

Cheers

How to articles are super popular and the community can always use updated ones. It took me a while of playing in the editor before I finally figured everything out. I have some HTML experience but I find Markup to be super limited. I agree that writing it somewhere else and then pasting it into the steemit editor seems to work way better!

I've added there as friend.
Huh, long time haven't used chats :-)

The link here not worked. I suppose because i already had that discord server.

Yes it is limited from what i see, but if i can use it in more places, it will be a good thing. I have an offline soft where i keep my posts with previews and then from there i can paste it in more than 1 place without major modifications. If it was in word... it could affect the look. Eh, it is not perfect now, but i'm giving it a try.

Yes, pasting it here is better aside that you can use the post window on the left and writing software on the right to make your reply as you read the post. That was a real help when meet a long post and want to remember all things there to point out something. That was also a big help.

From mobile... it was a big mess... lol. I spent 30 minutes for a few lines post (not comment, my own post). But wanted to see there how it is. If you write it plain simple... then it is ok. But for making bold and h1-h3... or copy your footer and then make links with title... pfff, it is a big mess.

So, for desktop is more than ok, for mobile... just for quick posts...

I will try to post a link to markdown post when i'll make it.

Hmmm... seeing that picture with sunset at the sea, i remembered i've got no chance to go to the sea this year also :-((((.

Maybe next year will have that chance.

Yes, i'm already there that's why :-)

Thanks a lot.

thank you for the shout out to me, but an even BIGGER thank you for featuring Gingyptian. Your support to people trying to find their way here is really inspiring, and I'm so proud of how you've integrated into the community and flourished. I wish this for every minnow that finds their home in the pond, but there's an element of work to it, and you have absolutely worked to bring in rewards and give out love. Thank you!

You're an amazing lady and deserve nothing but the best :)

Wow, thank you for featuring me here. And I really hope that you will continue writing for the love of it.
