The State of Steem - May 12th

in #steemit7 years ago

Hello Steemians! Well, we said that big things would be happening and while all of them might not have been entirely our doing we are very excited about how things are progressing on the platform.

Team Member Updates

We are planning to do more regular updates from team members through their personal blogs starting with @zurvanic and @andrarchy.

Our goal is to give you insight into us personally, our thought processes, and our personalities. We’re all here for a reason. Steemit stuff may come out on personal blogs from time to time, but we’ll try to restrict that to our ‘official’ blogs.

We’ll do our best to give you a window into our worlds.

Zappl and Steepshot

In last month’s marketing update @zurvanic (VP of Marketing, Mitchell Loureiro) announced that “we want to see dozens of social media and content apps running on the Steem blockchain,” so we are extremely happy to see the progress of @Zappl (a microblogging platform) and @Steepshot (a photo-sharing platform) which are being developed on the Steem Blockchain.

Not only are both teams creating great apps that will advance the Steem ecosystem vision, but they are also a fantastic example of how existing tools and platforms can be leveraged to develop a project rapidly and sustainably.

Strimi

We are also happy to welcome the @Strimi Team to the Steem economy. Strimi.pl is a polish reddit competitor. The Strimi Team has decided to move their site to the Steem Blockchain and become the “Polish Steemit.” We’re happy to watch as more and more developers are seeing the potential value of leveraging the Steem Blockchain, especially those who have already invested resources in other platforms and are still making the switch. Welcome Strimi Team!

SteemQ

This is @furion’s side project, and it’s making steady progress. His goal is to bring video hosting to the Steem blockchain which we find very exciting!

There’s also apparent interest from the great people at Bitchute and we look forward to seeing where that goes: https://steemit.com/beyondbitcoin/@officialfuzzy/breaking-officialfuzzy-and-jcalfee-open-up-bitchute-steemit-partnership-connection-will-the-community-rise-to-the-occasion

Busy

The @Busy team is hard at work, and their new wireframe looks amazing. Their hard work speaks for itself. You can check it out here: https://steemit.com/steem/@busy.org/busy-news-three-months-beta-what-s-new-next

Steem Park

Finally, we’re extremely excited to see the progress that @voronoi and @hansikhouse (who collectively make up the design collective @hitheryon) have been making on their Steem Park project. They are not only demonstrating how Steem can be used to build things in the real world, but they are also using Steemit and Steem to flip the model of how public projects are designed and funded.

These are exciting times and we still feel this is just the beginning. As Steem grows, it becomes an increasingly better platform to build startups and social media on. We can’t wait to see what comes next. :)

More news next week!

Well, we said that big things would be happening and while all of them might not have been entirely our doing...

I'm really curious to know what exactly has been your doing? From this side of the interwebz, I'm not seeing much. It's great to see that other people are developing apps for the Steem blockchain, but I find it a little distasteful to see Steemit, Inc. claiming any credit whatsoever for the recent price spike and interest in the platform. Can you point to something that you've done recently that has contributed to this? I've actually seen @dantheman and his father doing more marketing for Steem/Steemit than I've seen from Steemit, Inc.

On that note - what happened to the actual marketing? (Not the "crowd-sourced marketing.") Has that already been completely abandoned, or was it even in the cards in the first place?

To the developers of the apps like @zappl and @steepshot - excellent job so far! I can't wait to try out those apps!

And @furion - the anticipation of SteemQ is killing me! Bringing video to the Steem blockchain has been one of the most exciting things to look forward to since you first mentioned it last year. Do you have an updated timeline for when it may be rolled out for testing?

Hi there @ats-david. I'm glad you asked.

"From this side of the interwebz, I'm not seeing much." That's right, and you probably won't see most of it, and that's a good thing. You're here first, you know why Steemit is great. Business development and marketing concerns the rest of the world that don't know us yet.

Right now we're focused on 2 major things:

  1. Making Steemit the best possible product (so many things here)
  2. Continue work on our outreach push, which is still in the experimental phase.

There's a bunch of other things, like crowdsourcing (for which much is going on) that are happening, but my focus is on readying Steemit.com specifically for the long term. So far so good.

You'll be happy to know that there are more visible things slated for the next few weeks though.

That's right, and you probably won't see most of it, and that's a good thing.

I'm sorry, but you're the marketing guy. If I can't see what you're doing or see any results of what you're doing, that's certainly not a good thing.

You're here first, you know why Steemit is great.

Actually, I do not. In fact, I don't think Steemit is great. I think the Steem blockchain and many of the users here are great, but compared to pretty much all other social media sites, Steemit.com is terrible. I would actually love for it to be great, but last I read, Steemit, Inc. is content with having a site that's "just good enough." The fact that I'm here doesn't say much about how great or not the site is. I've actually posted a lot about improvements that can be made - even some very simple ones that have gone ignored for over eight months now...like a separate resteem tab on our blog pages.

I appreciate the response, but I'm not impressed with the vagueness and skirting the fact that not much has actually been happening on the marketing side. And unless we can see something other than announcements about announcements, others will likely not be impressed, including "the rest of the world that don't know us yet."

Of course, if you have something concrete to show us, please share it. I thought this was all about transparency and collaboration. It's hard to work together with people when you have no idea what they're doing. We don't need every last detail, but throw us a frickin' bone here. I have plans of my own to launch a marketing project for my business start-up and would like to see if there's at least some sort of overlap or coordination possible. It's a little difficult to figure that out when we don't really see anything...ever.

Well said @ats-david, I actually gave up banging this drum, because it became apparent to me that Steemit Inc is not interesting in spending one single satoshi on marketing. The amount of sycophantic replies I got to my Greatest Trick article actually made me sick to my stomach.

Listen the fact that you didn't get an answer to this comment, speaks volumes. I think the best way to continue is to just assume that there will not be any proper marketing. All of it will be community driven, and therefore haphazard at best (think billboards and events directed at people who already know about Steemit).

If you have a start up based on the Steem blockchain, don't rely on Steemit to give you any details about marketing because there won't be any. Once you accept that, you won't feel so frustrated.

That's what I did, I'm interested to see what will happen when a really marketing savvy team develop Steemit 2.0 and draw from the blockchain the way Steemit does, that'll put the digital cat amongst the pigeons :-)

Great update. It's exciting to see this ecosystem really begin to build. Thanks to all of the visionaries and developers who are making this possible.

The ability to host videos on here would be a game changer for Steem!

Thanks for the feature, we look forward to helping the community progress further into what it should be. This is only a step in the things to come for the STEEM blockchain.

Steemit has the development that we were promised with Bitcoin years ago. This is all amazing work!

@shayne

thank you for the updates on these projects on the steemit platform.

I am looking forward to seeing when all this will come into a picture. It will be a really great time using decentralized platform for basically everything :)

Will there be any incentive affiliate system ever?
And how about upgrading the search bar?

Most of the functionality is there; We're just not ready to implement it quite yet. Rest assured, when we're ready to begin taking advantage of a proper referral system it will not take long to complete.

search bar will soon be upgraded, hopefully :)

Hey, would you be able to use a hotlink friendly image host? You're a featured author on my website https://beyondboinc.net and the thumbnail is showing as a hotlink warning:

Thanks :D
